How Legendary Football Coach John Barbati Helped WHS Hall of Famer Clean Up His Act

On November 26th, former players and supporters of Watertown High School athletics are hosting a testimonial dinner for legendary coach John Barbati whose life-changing impact is still being celebrated more than 30 years after his retirement from coaching. As a mentor and cheerleader for his kids, Barbati sparked countless connections for his student athletes as he opened doors for them. One such example is WHS Hall of Famer Joe Antonellis who was a stalwart Raider and later starred at Harvard University. Antonellis, however, almost never made it on to the gridiron until Coach Barbati interceded. “My parents, Italian immigrants, forbid me to play football,” said Antonellis.

WORCESTER — Most games, Watertown High School’s field hockey team spends a majority of the time attacking the opponents goal, but in Saturday’s MIAA Div. 3 State Final the tables were turned. Despite facing an onslaught from Sandwich’s attack on Saturday, the Raiders emerged as the 2-0 winner and claimed the program’s 22nd State Title.

Two familiar foes will meet in the 2024 MIAA Div. 3 Field Hockey State Final. Watertown seeks its fourth straight title, and each of the previous three crowns came at the expense of their opponent Sandwich Saturday at Worcester State. Raiders Roll Past Dennis-Yarmouth to Book Spot in Field Hockey State Final

HANOVER — Watertown High School’s field hockey team scored three second quarter goals in the State Semifinal against Dennis-Yarmouth on the way to a 5-0 victory, and clinched a fourth straight trip to the MIAA Div. 3 State Final. The Raiders were led by Sophomore Kaylee Master’s three goals, and senior co-captain Rachel Egan added two tallies. Egan looked forward to one more trip to the State Final.

Watertown Field Hockey Team Final Four Bound After Beating Bedford

Watertown High School’s field hockey team eased into the Final Four with an overwhelming victory over Bedford in the Round of 8 in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament at Victory Field on Saturday. The second-seeded Raiders scored early and often, with senior Caroline Andrade scoring the first two, followed by three straight tallies by senior co-captain Rachel Egan.

Watertown Field Hockey Rolls, Cheerleaders Place 3rd, Boys Soccer Hit the Road for First Round

The Watertown High School field hockey team rolled in the Round of 32 State Tournament game on Sunday. The Raiders opened the 2024 MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament by defeating Falmouth 8-0 at Victory Field. Watertown senior Caroline Andrade scored three times, and senior Victoria Dicker scored twice in the win.
