Incidents

April 21, 8:31 a.m.: An Oliver Street resident reported someone had opened a Sprint cell phone account in 2015 in his name, but he did not know about it until his credit was impacted in 2020. Someone got access to his personal information, including his Social Security Number, in order open the account. There was a balance of $376 on it. The account has been closed, and the resident is working with Sprint to sort out the issues.

Watertown Assistant Fire Chief Accredited by Mass. Fire Service Commission

Watertown Fire DepartmentWatertown Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Nicholson. The following information was provided by the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission:

The Massachusetts Fire Service Commission granted accreditation to Assistant Chief Ryan Nicholson of the Watertown Fire Department on March 18, 2021 who has demonstrated the required fire service experience, education, and certifications for accreditation. This accreditation is granted through the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission, a gubernatorial appointed board that has established a process for uniform credentialing for the level of fire chief. Palmer Fire Chief Alan Roy, who serves as chair of the commission says, “The program establishes requirements based on education, training, and experience in areas relevant to serving as fire chief. It establishes benchmarks for training in fire and emergency service management so that chiefs may be better prepared to serve their department and their community.” The applicant’s documentation is reviewed by a subcommittee of the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission to determine if the individual has attained a minimum level of credits for education, training, and experience.

Police Log: Customer Threatens to Harm Tufts Health Plan Employees, Food Delivery Man Stiffed for Bill

The following information is provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrest

April 11, 11:57 p.m.: An officer patrolling in Watertown Square saw a white Toyota at the traffic light, and when the light turned green the vehicle did not move. The officer honked his horn to try to gain the driver’s attention but the person did not respond. The officer then saw that the driver appeared to be passed out with the car in drive and the driver had her foot on the brake pedal. After several attempts to wake her by knocking on, and shaking the vehicle the operator woke up.

Police Log: Man Who Drove Up on Sidewalk Faces OUI Charge, Shoplifter Hits Car in Lot While Fleeing

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

April 7, 4:31 p.m.: Police were called by someone who observed a woman sitting in a white car for an extended period and the caller said the woman was acting strangely. The vehicle was parked on Spruce Street and when officers spoke to the woman she said she was there because her boyfriend lived in the area. She was unable to tell police in which house he lived. When speaking with her, Police learned that there was a warrant for her arrest from the Brockton District Court for reckless endangerment of a child.

Police Log: Driver Knocks Over Utility Pole, Man Found in Vacant Apartment

March 29, 1:19 p.m.: Police were called to the office building at 6 Galen because a woman was refusing to leave the front vestibule. Police spoke to the woman and found out that she had two active warrants for her arrest, both from Suffolk County. The 52-year-old Quincy man was arrested on the warrants. March 30, 11:15 p.m.: A vehicle struck a utility pole at the corner of Main and Myrtle streets and knocked the pole over.

Police Log: Drunk Driver Crashes Into Car, Man Busted for Lighting Trash Barrels on Fire

March 22, 12:05 a.m.: Police received reports of three fires in concrete trash barrels, two in Watertown and one in Newton. One of those in Watertown occurred on Watertown Street on March 21 at about 6 p.m. and another on Galen Street on March 22, just past midnight. Police got access to a surveillance video of the area around one of the barrels and were able to identify a suspect. The video showed him walking on Galen Street and as he passed a barrel he lit a book or box of matches and dropped it into the barrel.

Watertown Police Believe Three Vehicle Thefts Linked to Town are Related

Three stolen vehicle incidents in Watertown appear to be linked to each other, according to Watertown Police. One of the vehicles was reported stolen from Watertown, and two vehicles reported stolen from other communities were found in Town, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. The first incident was reported on March 23 at 2:03 p.m. The owner of a 2007 Chevy pickup reported the vehicle stolen. It was parked at a Dexter Avenue business at noon and when the owner came back an hour later, it was missing, O’Connor said. At about 3:50 p.m., the van was found in Newton.

Police Log: Man Arrested After Crashing Moped, Electric Scooters Stolen

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrest

March 21, 6:51 p.m.: Police got a call reporting a blue moped being ridden erratically on Main Street near Church Street. When officers arrived they found the moped on the sidewalk in front of Santander Bank, and the rider was in back of the bank. Police found gouges in the sidewalk and minor damage to the moped. They determined the driver hit the fire hydrant and the rider fell off the moped.
