Police Log: Businesses Broken Into, Multiple Catalytic Converters Stolen

July 28, 1:14 a.m.: Watertown Police checked on a car parked at Arsenal Park after closing time. A man inside was sleeping in the backseat. When they checked on the man, police spoke to him and found out he had an outstanding warrant. Joshua Wood, 31, from Lowell, was arrested on the warrant from Brighton District Court for disorderly conduct and destruction of property.

Rash of Smashed Car Windows Reported Around Watertown

Watertown Police are investigating several recent reports of vehicles that had their rear windows smashed by large rocks or objects. From late on the night of July 28 to the morning of July 31, Watertown Police received six reports of back windows of vehicles that had been smashed in different locations around town. The first incident was reported on Edenfield Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on July 28. The owner had seen the window intact at about 6 p.m.

On July 29, a Hillside Road resident found the rear window completely shattered shortly after 8 a.m. A piece of concrete was used in this incident. A Westminster Avenue resident parked on the street at about 2 p.m. on July 29 and at about four looked out and saw the back window of the vehicle had been smashed.

July 19, 12 p.m.: A woman wanted to cancel a flight she had booked on Priceline and contacted a number she found online. The person she thought was a customer service representative gave her a promotional offer to rebook the flight. She was told she would have to pay $300 in Target gift cards. The woman went to Target and bought the cards, and then contacted the number and gave the person the gift card numbers.

Police Log: Driver Busted After Driving With No Tire on Rim, Valuables Taken from Apartment

July 15, 1:54 a.m.: An officer who stopped at a red light on North Beacon Street heading toward Watertown Square when he heard a loud scraping noise coming from behind him. He looked in the mirror and saw a grey Ford SUV, with the driver’s side tire completely off the rim. The SUV was driving on its rim, and sparks were coming from the rim as it traveled past the cruiser. When the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver said he had not been in an accident but that he got a flat when he drove over a nail.

July 7, 7:22 p.m.: A small fire was reported by someone on the bicycle path behind Target. The fire was on private property just off the path where there were some patio chairs. Some cardboard and glue sticks were on fire, and appeared to have been lit by a cigarette lighter. Watertown Firefighters put out the fire.

Watertown Nursing Facility Thanks First Responders, Looks to Show Them Things Have Changed Under New Management

Vero Health CareVero Watertown thanked members of the Watertown Police and Fire departments for a cookout, recently. Pictured, from left, Fire Lt. Glen McManus, State Rep. Steve Owens, Vero Health Care President/COO Uma Rajagopal, Police Officer Ryan Vaughan, and Vero Watertown Administrator Tim Churchill. The operators of a Watertown skilled nursing facility that has struggled recently wanted to show that the place is under new management, and invited over the first responders, who visit on a regular basis, to thank them. At the end of June, Vero Health & Rehab of Watertown held a cookout for the members of the Watertown Fire and Police departments, and also invited State Rep. Steve Owens to come by and tour the facility. The facility on Coolidge Hill Road came under scrutiny after reports of possible elder abuse and hundreds of 911 calls coming from there, including sometimes from patients.

Police Log: Driver Arrested on OUI Drugs Charge, Apartment Complex Office Vandalized

June 28, 2:49 p.m.: A motorist observed another vehicle swerving in the roadway for about two miles and the driver appeared to doze off at one point. The motorist called police and a Watertown Police officer located the grey Hyundai Sonata on Main Street near Whites Avenue. The officer saw the vehicle cross the double yellow line and straddle the line, so the officer put on the blue lights. The vehicle abruptly went back into the right lane and cut across two travel lanes and struck the curb.

Police Log: Couple Tries to Scam Autistic Man, Man Wanted on Five Warrants Arrested

June 22, 7:51 p.m.: Watertown Police were called to the Inn on Arsenal (the former Super 8 Motel) to check on a man who had not responded to a friend’s calls. They found the man in his room, and he said he had fallen asleep and missed the call. When police were there they found that the man had five warrants for his arrest: one from New Bedford District Court for unarmed robbery; two from Dedham District Court (one for attempting to commit a crime and one domestic-related charge); one from Falmouth District Court for uttering a false check, check forgery, and larceny under $250 from someone over 60 years old; and a domestic-related charge from Malden District Court. Michael J. Perry, 39, of Somerville, was arrested on the warrants.
