Police Log: Shoplifter Chased Down in Allston, Check Taken from Mail and Altered

March 28, 11:12 a.m.: Home Depot security approached a Watertown detail officer to alert him to a shoplifter fleeing the store. The officer put out a description of the suspect, who was spotted on Arsenal Street near the bridge over the Charles River heading into Boston. The man did not stop when officers told him to do so. They chased him into Boston and stopped him on Western Avenue near the Watertown line.

March 21, 7:25 a.m.: A Standish Road resident reported a missing package. The resident received a confirmation of a delivery from Amazon on March 20 including a photo of the package on the doorstep. When the resident went to look for the package it was not there. It contained $6 worth of batteries.

Middlesex Sheriff Offering Correctional Officer Exam, Signing Bonus

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is extending the registration period for those interested in taking the correction officer entrance exam to Friday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m.

Candidates may sign up for the free exam by visiting middlesexsheriff.org and completing the registration form. The exam is being offered on a rolling basis with prospective candidates able to select from one of nine sessions between March 28 – April 9. Those who pass the written exam will be invited to take the office’s fitness test on April 16. Starting base salary for new officers is $60,885 with the ability to earn over $10,000 more in potential bonuses and overtime. Candidates who successfully graduate the BTA and complete a probationary period will also be eligible for a $2,500 sign on bonus.

Watertown Firefighters Douse Porch Fire That Extended into Home

A fire struck a home on Riverside Street on Sunday, damaging a porch and part of an apartment. The Watertown Fire Department got a fire alarm at 3:30 p.m. on March 27 from a six-unit building on Riverside Street. They received reports of smoke in the basement. “Members of Group 2 extinguished a small fire on the rear porch, which was extending to the building. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced,” said the fire report from the Watertown Fire Department.

Police Log: Man Arrested After Resisting Arrest, Shoplifter Caught Wearing the Boots He Stole

March 17, 3:03 p.m.: Officers were at Target when they were alerted about a possible shoplifter. One of the employees saw the man take some headphones and a portable charger, and then exit the store. He rode away on a bicycle. The officer saw the same bicycle parked alone in front of Best Buy.

Woman Stabbed Multiple Times, Police Determine It Was a Domestic Incident

A woman suffered multiple stab wounds during an altercation that took place on Monday, March 21 on Cuba Street in Watertown. Watertown Police say the incident has been ruled domestic in nature. At about 8:33 p.m. on March 21, the Watertown Police received multiple reports of a disturbance on Cuba Street. Officers located a 35-year-old woman who had been stabbed multiple times. The Watertown Fire Department gave her medical aid and took her to a Boston hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

March 2, 9:43 p.m.: Police were called to Grandview Avenue for a man asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Officers were able to wake him, and he said he dozed off because he was tired from working so much. He added he was waiting for a friend. Police discovered he had an outstanding warrant.
