Flu Vaccine Clinics Will be Hosted by Watertown’s Public Health Department

The Watertown Public Health Department will host a series of flu vaccine clinics in coming weeks. Some are for people ages 9 and above and some are for seniors. See the details in the announcement provided by the City of Watertown below. People Ages 9 and Over

The Watertown Public Health Department is offering Influenza vaccine to people, ages 9 and over, at the Watertown Free Public Library, located at 123 Main Street, on the following days and times. Please register ahead to secure your appointment:

Call for Artists for the Watertown Community Sculpture Walk

The Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee sent out the following announcement:

The Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee (PACC) is excited to announce the 2025-26 season of the Community Sculpture Walk. The Community Sculpture Walk exhibits outdoor sculptures to enhance use of green space in Watertown, encourage public interaction with contemporary art, and create an annual exhibition opportunity for artists at all career stages working in a variety of mediums.

The Community Sculpture Walk follows the Community Path from the Thaxter Street parking lot behind the Watertown Free Public Library to Waverly Avenue. There are eight sites along the path for sculptures and additional sites may be added as the path is extended. Each year, four sculptures will be selected to be on loan for two years, so that each year four new sculptures will be on view. Description

Selected artists will be awarded $2,500 for the two-year loan of their sculpture.

Perkins School Hosting Fourth Annual Everbody Move! Walk/Move

Perkins School for the Blind provided the following announcement:

Next month Perkins School for the Blind will host its fourth annual Everybody Move! Walk/Move for Perkins on October 5th. This family-friendly event begins and ends on the Perkins campus and includes a short walk or move through Watertown, as well as a baby animal petting zoo, snacks and food trucks, and accessible yard games.

Life Science Building Could Potentially Go on Part of Home Depot Parking Lot

A six-story life science building which would to be built on part of the parking lot behind the Home Depot in Watertown is in the planning stages. Boylston Properties, the developers of Arsenal Yards, submitted pre-application plans to the City of Watertown showing a six-story building with five levels of life science space and one story of parking. Plans were submitted to the Planning Department on Sept. 5.

DCR Hosting Meeting on Potential Removal of Watertown Dam

Charlie BreitroseThe Watertown Dam near Watertown Square slows the flow of the Charles River. A group is advocating removing the dam. The following information was provided by the Charles River Watershed Association:

Watertown Dam, located on the Charles River, is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has contracted an engineering consultant to perform an alternatives analysis study for potential future actions at the Watertown Dam. In this community meeting, the DCR project team will present information on the preliminary results of the ongoing study and possible future alternatives for modifying the dam, including its removal.

LETTER: Thank You to Marilyn Petitto Devaney for Her Service

Dear Editor:

I am writing to join those in thanking Marilyn Petitto Devaney, for her Fifty years plus of service as Town Meeting Member, Original Charter Commission Member, Watertown Town Council Member, Governor’s Councilor and Member of the Commission on Disabilities, to Watertown and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I knew Marilyn loved her community. We often observed her going to just about every Wake in town. This was because growing up here she knew everyone. That is where the name Townie came from. People were either related to each other or had strong relationships with Neighbors.  I learned to watch how I say something. One may say I am talking about Uncle, Aunt and or Cousin. We are taught to be sensitive to the feelings of all people. I met Marilyn in the 1970’s when she was a Town Meeting Member.
