Free Open House at Browne House, Watertown’s Oldest Home

The following announcement was provided by Historic New England:

On Saturday, June 7, Historic New England sites across the region are free and open to the public. Visitors can enjoy a fun day of fantastic storytelling from architecture and fine art to New Englanders of the past. Browne House is recognized as the first fully documented restoration in America and the oldest house in Watertown. There is one large room on the first floor, which incorporated living, cooking, and sleeping space. The second floor features rare architectural features and an attic completes the tour.

Construction Crews Will Install Drainage on Mt. Auburn St. This Week

Drainage work will be the focus of the construction on Mt. Auburn Street during the week of June 2-7. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown. Beginning Monday, June 2, 2025, Newport Construction will resume drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street at the intersections with Kimball Road and Elton Avenue. Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts

During this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and possibly lane closures, but one travel lane in each direction will remain on Mount Auburn Street.

The City of Watertown announced that the Get Your Bike Out event scheduled for Saturday, May 31 has been cancelled. The following message was sent out by the City

Due to rain in the forecast, the annual Get Out Your Bike event scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10am-12pm is CANCELLED. Watch for news about Bike Day at the Watertown Farmers’ Market this summer, where you can get a free bike check and meet representatives from city and local agencies.

Memorial Day Speaker Says it is Critical to Remember the Sacrifices of Veterans & for All Citizens to Participate in Decisions of War & Peace

After a parade featuring youth sports teams, bands, the Watertown Police and Fire Department, and many more, a newish Watertown resident who devoted his career to military service and military intelligence spoke about the importance of Memorial Day and what all citizens can do to preserve the memories of those who died serving their country. This year, the keynote speaker at Watertown’s Memorial Day Ceremony, held Monday at Victory Field, was Ret. Col. J.D. Williams, who served in the Marine Corps from 1978-2004 as an intelligence officer.

Rotary Club Celebrating 100 Years; Appreciated Teachers at Each of the Public Schools

The Rotary Club of Watertown turned 100 years old in 2025, and the club has a celebration planned. The Club also presented Watertown teachers with gifts as part of the recent teacher appreciation week. Celebration
