One Watertown Institution Reopening After COVID-19 Break, Another Scaling Back; Latest Case Numbers

Donohue’s Bar & Grill reopened after two weeks off due to the Coronavirus outbreak. A mainstay in the Watertown restaurant scene will be reopening after a couple weeks off during the Coronavirus outbreak, while a popular local market will be closing for in-store shopping. Over the weekend, J.D. Donohue announced that Donohue’s Bar & Grill will begin serving meals and alcohol for take out and deliver starting on Monday, April 6. “We closed after St. Patrick’s Day to give staff and kitchen staff and myself time to be quarantined,” Donohue said.

Many Watertown Restaurants Open During COVID-19, See the List Compiled by the Town & a Local Business Group

Looking for a restaurant in Watertown to pick up food or have a meal delivered, check out the list compiled by the Watertown Business Coalition and the Town of Watertown. A few restaurants have closed temporarily during the Coronavirus outbreak, but most remain open for take out and, in many cases, delivery. You can call to order, some restaurants take orders on their website, or through food delivery apps such as Grub Hub, Doordash or Uber Eats. Town officials sent out the following statement:

In order to track what restaurants and other food establishments are open during this challenging and unprecedented time, the Town of Watertown has coordinated with the Watertown Business Coalition to compile and keep an up to date list of food establishments. We will continue to update the list with missing establishments and changes to current status for takeout and delivery.

Watertown Food Pantry Changing Hours, Opening One Day a Week

Items collected for the Watertown Community Foundation’s food drive in January. The Foundation is organizing another one in the month of October. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 (the Coronavirus) the Watertown Food Pantry will be consolidating hours and will be open one day a week. Beginning March 24, the Watertown Food Pantry will be open for extended hours on Tuesdays, but will not be open on Thursdays. The Pantry, located at the rear of the Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church at 80 Mt.

Grocery Store Chain Opening Early to Allow Older Customers to Shop

Supermarket chain Stop & Shop announced that it will soon start opening early to allow shoppers 60 and older to get their groceries as part of their efforts for social distancing due to the Coronavirus. Stop & Shop said it would open early to allow give older people to shop before the broader public can start shopping. “To support this group, beginning Thursday, March 19th, all Stop & Shop stores will open earlier in order to service only customers who are age 60 and over from 6:00a.m.-7:30a.m. daily.” “We’re making the decision to offer this every day of the week to allow for community members in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which better enables social distancing. They’ll also be shopping prior to any other customers entering.”

With Gov. Baker’s order to close restaurants, they will be one of the hardest hit during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The vast majority of Watertown restaurants remain open for take out, and many also deliver. Many restaurants around town put up messages on social media or on their websites. Movie Theater Open, New Restaurant Debuting Soon at Arsenal Yards

The Majestic 7 movie theaters have opened at Arsenal Yards. Watertown once again has a place to see a movie, with the opening of the multiscreen cinema in Arsenal Yards, and diners will soon have a new option in the former Arsenal Mall. The Majestic 7 features first run films in seven theaters, including one with a giant screen and high-tech sound. The experience is dubbed CWX and is similar to the IMAX technology. The giant screen in the CWX theater at The Majestic 7 in Watertown’s Arsenal Yards.

Restaurant with Caribbean, Mediterranean Fare Heading to Watertown

A restaurant featuring a mix of Caribbean and Mediterranean fare appears headed to the Pleasant Street area on the westside of Watertown. Nzuko started in Framingham in 2016, and also has a location in the Natick Mall. The name means “gathering” in Nigerian, and the restaurant’s website says, “All of our dishes are always sourced organically and fresh, and prepared with global recipes that promote nutrition and health.
