Local Cable Station Collecting Food for the Watertown Food Pantry

This year WCA-TV announced it is putting on a food drive for the Watertown Food Pantry. The collection runs from March 16 to April 6, and will be ending in time for Passover and Easter. Drop off locations will be at the Watertown Cable studio, in the basement of Watertown High School, at the high school (50 Columbia St.), or at the Watertown Police Station (552 Main St.). The Watertown Pantry needs include: coffee, cold cereal, baked beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit, boxed oatmeal, tomato sauce and dried pasta and rice. Please do not donate opened or expired food.

Sign Up for the 2020 Watertown Town-Wide Spelling Bee

The 10th annual Watertown Town-wide Spelling Bee is coming up and teams can sign up now. This year’s spelling bee will be on Sunday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it will be held at the Hosmer Elementary School Auditorium. The money raise during the spelling bee will go to help the Watertown Public Schools. The spelling be is open to all Watertown elementary school students in grades 1 through 5. To register team of three students costs $60, and T-shirts are available for $15.

Movie Theater Open, New Restaurant Debuting Soon at Arsenal Yards

The Majestic 7 movie theaters have opened at Arsenal Yards. Watertown once again has a place to see a movie, with the opening of the multiscreen cinema in Arsenal Yards, and diners will soon have a new option in the former Arsenal Mall. The Majestic 7 features first run films in seven theaters, including one with a giant screen and high-tech sound. The experience is dubbed CWX and is similar to the IMAX technology. The giant screen in the CWX theater at The Majestic 7 in Watertown’s Arsenal Yards.

Watertown Schools Collecting Gift Cards, Donations for Fire Victims

After the devastating fire that displaced 31 Watertown residents on Friday, the Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) at the schools in town leapt into action to collect items to help those affected. The parent-teacher groups at the town’s three elementary schools, the Middle School and the High school all started collections over the weekend. “I am beyond overwhelmed with the response we have received to our call for donations!!!” wrote School Committee member Lily Rayman-Read on Facebook. “****A HUGE shout out to all the PTOs and the WHS PTSO for their incredibly hard work on organizing and setting everything up for donations.

Scouts Hosting Fund Raiser With Pasta, Auction & Circus Performers

Watertown Troop 30 will host a Pasta & Auction event, which also includes entertainment from circus performers. The event will be on Feb. 1, 2020, at the Watertown-Belmont United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn St., beginning at 6 p.m. The event is handicap accessible from the parking lot to the left of the church. Dinner will be served downstairs hall for dinner, and circus performances will be held in the gym.
