James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. The Armenian Museum of America will be hosting Gandzaran, an exhibit of notable selections from the Watertown-based museum’s collection. An opening reception will be held on March 22. The following information was provided by the Armenian Museum of America:
Armenian fine art historically focused on illuminations, miniatures, and other pious objects, the most significant of which were secured and hidden in the gandzaran (գանձարան), or treasury, of a monastery. Drawing from the Museum’s vaults — our own gandzaran — this exhibit (click here) showcases the development of Armenian art in the 20th and 21st centuries, from its origins in religious motifs to the Soviet period and its continuous reinterpretation among contemporary artists around the world.

Watertown will hold the first Porchfest on Saturday, May 18, and organizers seek both porches to host performances and bands to perform. The event will be on May 18, from 12-5 p.m. (rain date is Sunday, May 19). Registration has opened, and will continue through April 28. What is Porchfest? Porchfest is an afternoon of free music (and other performances) performed outside of people’s homes – on porches, patios, driveways, and lawns.

YardArt Watertown”PaTRASHia” was one of the pieces made for Watertown’s YardArt. The following announcement was provided by YardArt:
YardArt returns to Watertown this year for the entire month of April. The community-wide event begins Monday, April 1 and lasts through Tuesday, April 30, 2024. A variety of artful and whimsical installations will be displayed on front yards, porches, and storefronts throughout Watertown. Watertown residents, families, organizations, clubs, classes, artists, and businesses are invited to create something of their own–a gizmo, a sculpture, an art project, a lighting arrangement—let your imagination run free!
For two nights and one afternoon, Watertown High School students will bring Working: A Musical to the stage at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. “This year’s spring musical will take place on March 1st and March 2nd at 7 p.m. and March 3rd at 2 p.m. All shows will take place at the Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts at 321 Arsenal Street,” the announcement from the school said. General admission is $10 and Watertown Students are free.
Working is based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, and paints a vivid portrait of the workers that the world so often takes for granted. The original production was nominated for six Tony Awards, and features songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, Micki Grant, and more.
