Elton John Tribute, Army Band, Fiddler on the Roof & Much More at the Mosesian Center in June

The Mosesian Center for the Arts has a wide variety of events this June, from concerts to plays to visual art exhibits, plus a community event and arts classes. The MCA provided the following information:

Earfull at Branch Line | June 11, 18 & 25

This performance series features writers and musicians doing their respective things. Writers read from their new books, or about-to-be books, or right from their crumpled-up notes. Musicians range from harpists to hornblowers, from solo songwriters to full-on rock bands. Join for food & drink on the Branch Line patio, great readings and performances, and time between acts to socialize. 

Fork & Shoe Theatre Co-op presents Café du Cheap Artiste: PRESIDENTS | June 8

Cafe du Cheap Artiste is a performance open mic/cabaret presented in a variety of spaces.

New Rep’s Run Ends With Fanfare: Several Nominations & 2 Wins at Theater Awards Ceremony

Watertown-based New Repertory Theatre closed its doors in 2023, but the company’s final season earned accolades at the recent Elliot Norton Awards in Boston. The following announcement was provided by Maria Hendricks, one of the former Resident Artists/Co-Artistic Directors at New Rep.

New Repertory Theatre’s final season went out with a bang as its productions were celebrated at the esteemed 41st Annual Elliot Norton Awards, held at The Huntington Theater on May 20. As one of the Greater Boston area’s premiere mid-sized regional theater companies for 40 years, it was especially gratifying for the company to receive such meaningful recognition as it ended its run. New Rep received 7 Nominations:

• Outstanding Production, Small Theater – A Raisin in the Sun

Small Saves Gets a New Team Logo in This Week’s Cartoon

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Life Science Lab Hosting One-Day Art Exhibit Featuring Underrepresented Artists

A Watertown life science lab incubator space will be focusing on art for one evening in June, and will showcase the works of artists from underrepresented groups. Cambridge Scientific Labs opened two years ago, and has two locations in Watertown. The company provided space for biotechs trying to get off the ground, said Barbara Pearlman, CEO of Cambridge Scientific Labs. Pearlman decided that the space could also help some local artists become more well known. “They have to be underrepresented artists,” Pearlman said.

Weekend Fun: Pride Festival, Tour Town’s Oldest House, Author’s Trip Down Charles River & More

A “Proud” flag is displayed during the 2022 Watertown Pride Parade. Watertown will celebrate its Pride this weekend, with the annual Pride Parade and Festival. History buffs have a couple of options, including taking a look inside a house built in the 1600, and a narrated slide show focusing on the Charles River. Mount Auburn Cemetery has a pair of events: a walking tour and a writing workshop. Also, enjoy Armenian music from the comfort of your home, or wherever, with an online concert.

Michael Tougias, author of Exploring The Hidden Charles, will present a narrated slide presentation about his beloved river. The presentation follows the Charles River on its 80 mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston, and along the way Tougias will share anecdotes, history, wildlife encounters and conservation issues. Suggestions for exploring the river and nearby reservations will also be discussed. After the presentation Tougias will sign copies of his books and answer questions about the river or about the writing and publishing process. Tougias is a New York Times Bestselling author and co-author of 30 books including “Extreme Survival: Lessons From Those Who Have Triumphed Against All Odds.”
