Starting Nov. 26, you can shop locally and take advantage of special offers from stores, dance studios, restaurants and other businesses during Shop Watertown Week. As of Nov. 22, 27 businesses have joined Shop Watertown. The first such event is sponsored by the Watertown Business Coalition in an effort to promote local businesses during the holiday season, the WBC announcement said.

Charlie Baker visited one of Watertown’s life science companies which is doing its part to train workers to participate in the creation of treatments for infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases and cancer through a new apprenticeship program partially funded by the state. Baker visited Arranta Bio on Pleasant Street on Tuesday to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. He was joined by, among others, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta, and Governor’s Councilor Marilyn Petitto Devaney from Watertown. During the event, the Baker-Polito Administration announced $2.7 million in new grant funding for 19 organizations to support apprenticeship programs across Massachusetts.
The first Shop Watertown Week will take place from Nov. 26 to Dec. 5, and will feature local businesses, restaurants and service providers. Film, television, video and theatre actor, Cuyle Carvin, recently performed with one of the heavy weights on the movie screen, Tom Cruise. The pair shared a scene in the motion picture, American Made, in 2017 which can be seen at:https://vimeo.com/251399859
Carvin is involved with a weight of another kind on a special episode of Drawing With Fred titled Cuyle Carvin’s Fitness Friends. While exercising with a weight he briefly interacts with Olive Oyl, Wimpy, Brutus and Popeye. The cartoon quartet are all trying to stay in shape with humorous results.
