After a historic run in the MIAA playoffs, Watertown head football coach John Cacace was named the Div. 5 Coach of the Year by the Boston Globe.
This season the Raiders finished 7-5 and won the school’s first North Section title by going on the road three straight weeks, culminating in a comeback win at Lynnfield in the North Final.
Watertown made it to the Eastern Mass. final, where the team fell to a powerful Dennis-Yarmouth squad that went on to win the Div. 5 Super Bowl. The Raiders capped the season with a win on Thanksgiving over Belmont.
The Globe article points out that Cacace had success “despite injuries and a thin roster,” and won three road playoff games in comeback wins in the last minutes, or seconds, of the game.
Cacace coached his 11th season in 2017 and the Raiders have had nine straight winning seasons. He teaches math at Watertown High School.
