Maya Erdelyi of Watertown is a recipient of the 2017 Boston Foundation’s Brother Thomas Fellowship, according to Lesley University.
A faculty member of Lesley University’s Animation and Motion Media department, Erdelyi will receive a $15,000 unrestricted grant.
In addition to helping fund her work, the Brother Thomas Fellowship is an affirming boost for Erdelyi.
“They’re recognizing me as someone who’s working hard. It’s encouraging me to continue. I really appreciate that,” she said.
Erdelyi has two works-in-progress that will benefit from the grant — a public printmaking project and “Anyuka,” an animated documentary about her Hungarian-born grandmother.
About the fellowship
The biannual $15,000 fellowships honor the legacy of Brother Thomas Bezanson, a Benedictine monk and well-known ceramic artist. A review panel selects the grantees from a pool of nominees, all mid-career artists in the Boston area who have shown a commitment to their work. This year 14 artists were chosen to receive grants.
