The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Nov. 9, 12:35 p.m.: A man was spotted in Target cutting the security device off a pair of earbuds valued at $63. Security called police. Meanwhile, the man took the headphones into the restroom and he was there when police arrived. When he emerged, he was taken into the security office and the earbuds were recovered. The 41-year-old Boston man was arrested on charges of shoplifting and unlawful deactivation of a theft detection device.
Nov. 9, 3:25 p.m.: A man came into Home Depot and took several types of copper wire, electrical cords and gauges. He then walked out the door without paying for the items. He was stopped and security found six types of copper wire, 1,250 ft. of extension cord and a spool of UF wire. The items were worth a combined $2,486.25. The 39-year-old Saugus man was arrested for larceny over $250.
Nov. 12, 12:10 a.m.: Watertown Police received a call from the Middlesex Probation Department about a man in town wanted on a warrant. Officers located the man outside Target and placed him under arrest. The 34-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the warrant from Waltham District Court for a probation violation.
Incidents
Nov. 6, 11:40 a.m.: A manager of the CVS in Watertown Square called police after discovering that someone had used counterfeit money at the store. The day before at 5:20 p.m. a woman and a man came into the store. The man went through the self checkout area but the woman went to a cashier. She made a purchase totaling $151.24 and gave the cashier $152. Later it was discovered that the woman used $140 in counterfeit $20 bills to make the purchase. Police are investigating the incident.
Nov. 6, 6:15 p.m.: A resident reported that his vehicle was broken into while parked by Friendly’s in the Watertown Mall parking lot earlier in the day. The vehicle was parked there from noon to 2 p.m. Items taken include an alarm clock just purchased at Target, some old CDs and a Garmin GPS device. There were no signs of forced entry.
Nov. 7, 12:15 p.m.: The facility manger at St. James Armenian Church reported that someone had written profanity in black marker on one of the columns of the recreation/school building. It was found on Nov. 5 by a Sunday school student.
Nov. 7, 2:20 p.m.: A vehicle may have been vandalized while parked in the Arsenal Mall lot. The vehicle was parked there on Oct. 31 at about 7 p.m. near the Marshall’s entrance, near where construction has been going on. The owner left an hour and a half later. The next morning the owner discovered that there was some white spray paint on the passenger side of the vehicle. It was not clear whether the paint got on the car when it was at the Arsenal Mall or while it was parked on the street in Somerville, where the owner lives.
Nov. 8, 11:55 a.m.: A package was reported missing from a home on Lexington Street. The resident confirmed that the Postal Service had delivered it on Nov. 2 but he never found it. The package contained prescription medicine.
Nov. 8, 5:50 p.m.: Police responded to an auto service business on Arsenal Street where a customer an employee had an argument. A woman and her 16-year-old son brought a vehicle in to be serviced. The son had left a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses in the center console and when they got the vehicle back the sunglasses were gone. When this was discovered the mother confronted the employee and then the manager, saying the employee had taken them. The employee said he did not know about what happened with the glasses, but the mother and son insisted they had been in the car.
Nov. 8, 7:45 p.m.: A Chester Street resident reported that a package had been taken. The package contained clothing worth $376. Delivery was confirmed by FedEx but the resident never found the package.
Nov. 11, 2:55 a.m.: A man went to Hazel Street to make a delivery for Domino’s. When he arrived, two young males appeared, took the items from the man and fled into a nearby yard. Both the suspects were described as being around 17 or 18 years old, one was white and one African-American. The delivery cost $38.
Nov. 11, 3 p.m.: The owner of the Main Street Mobile gas station reported that money had been stolen from the business. When an employee arrived around 6:15 a.m. he found the rear garage bay door open. It is usually closed and locked from the inside. The lock was found on the floor inside the business. Later, the owner went to pay the employees and when he went into the safe he found money was missing. The owner thought that someone had fished the money out of safe through a small deposit drop door in the safe. Police are investigating.
Nov. 12, 1:30 a.m.: Someone sprayed “NIKU” and “HATE” in yellow paint on the side of the Belmont Savings Bank branch on Mt. Auburn Street. Police are investigating.
