The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Oct. 31, 6:25 a.m.: A motorist called police to report that a man was asleep behind the wheel on Mt. Auburn Street at School Street. The motorist tried to wake the man, and when he awoke and he seemed dazed and confused. Officers arrived and spoke to the driver. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was confused about where he was. The man admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and failed three field sobriety tests. The 29-year-old Norfolk man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Nov. 2, 5:15 p.m.: Police spotted a man walking on the street who was known to be wanted on a warrant. Officers stopped him and confirmed he had an active warrant. Police arrested the 57-year-old Watertown man for the warrant from Salem District Court for trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Nov. 3, 1:20 p.m.: Police responded to Pleasant Street for two people having an argument. When police arrived and spoke to the pair, one became unruly and extremely agitated. He began to be verbally abusive calling officers names. The incident was on the street and drivers were stopping to see what was going on. Police said they would arrest him for disorderly conduct and when they tried to take him into custody the man became combative and physically resisted arrest. He grabbed an officer’s jacket and would not let go. The 46-year-old Newton man was handcuffed and arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Nov. 3, 6:15 p.m.: Security at Marshall’s spotted a woman take a jacket off the rack and put it on. She was then seen taking a pair of Ugg boots and concealing them under other items she was carrying. The woman left the store, but was stopped in the mall and brought back to the store. In total, she had $163.99 worth of merchandise. The 23-year-old Arlington woman was arrested on a charge of shoplifting over $100 by asportation.
Nov. 4, 12:25 a.m.: The Probation Department alerted Watertown Police about a man wanted on a warrant. They located the man and arrested the 59-year-old Watertown man on a warrant from Waltham District Court for failing to comply with probation requirements.
Nov. 4, 3:30 a.m.: Two people had been removed from the Super 8 Motel and were causing a disturbance in the rear driveway. Police spoke to the people and discovered one had two outstanding warrants. The 50-year-old Boston man was arrested on two warrants from Roxbury District Court.
Incidents
Oct. 30, 8:55 a.m.: A Charles Street resident reported that two vehicles had been broken into and rummaged through while parked on the street. Both vehicles were left unlocked. Nothing was stolen or damaged.
Oct. 30, 5 p.m.: Police were called to a Mt. Auburn Street address for one neighbor disturbing another. The caller said that a neighbor began knocking on his door and she was yelling for him to open the door. When he opened the door she stepped into the apartment and struck him several times with her cane. The man called police and the woman left. The man did not suffer any injuries. Officers arrived and knocked on the woman’s door. She would not answer the door. Police tried to get int touch, and called her. She did not pick up and she returned one of the calls but when the officer identified himself the woman hung up. Police requested a court summons for a 69-year-old Watertown woman for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Oct. 31, 1:30 p.m.: A woman reported that her vehicle had been stolen. She needed to get the 1996 Honda Civic repaired and found a mechanic on the OfferUp app. The person she contacted sent a tow truck to her home on Melendy Avenue to pick up the car and tow it to the shop. After she did not hear from the mechanic, she tried to contact the person without success. Police are investigating.
Nov. 2, 4 p.m.: A Howard Street resident reported she had been scammed by someone online. She was on her computer when a window popped up saying her computer had been hacked. It gave a number to call, and she spoke with a person who said he could fix the computer if she sent $500 in iTunes gift cards. The woman went to multiple stores to get the gift cards, sent the information and confirmed they had been cashed. When she realized she was the victim of a scam she contacted police. The number she called was 1-818-233-8130. When police called it was disconnected.
Nov. 2, 9:20 p.m.: Marshall’s discovered an employee had been taking items from the store. The man had taken several small items and the store was going to handle it internally. Then the man was caught on surveillance taking an iPhone charger from the stockroom and conceal it in the waistband of his pants. The 18-year-old man from Brookline was summonsed to Waltham District Court for shoplifting by concealment.
Nov. 3, 3:50 p.m.: A Riverside Street resident reported that someone broke into a locked storage unit and took parts off a bike. The storage unit next door was unlocked and the metal wire between the units was cut. It is not clear when the theft occurred. The cost of the parts is about $100.
Nov. 3, 4:50 p.m.: A Langdon Avenue resident went out at 1 p.m. and returned home at 3 p.m. to find a ladder lying in the back yard of her home. The ladder had been stored in her basement, and the door to the basement showed marks that it had been forced open, possibly kicked in. She called police and officers searched the home, but did not find anyone inside. There was also damage to the door from the basement to the living area as if someone had tried to force it open. Nothing was taken. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious person in the area around the time of the break in. Police are investigating.
Nov. 3, 6:40 p.m.: A woman was walking down Waverley Avenue and she was almost struck by a dark-colored SUV. She yelled at the woman driving, who stopped and got out of the vehicle. The two exchanged words and the driver spat in the woman’s face. The driver is described as a white, middle aged woman with dark hair. The woman did not get a license plate.
Nov. 5, 2:50 p.m.: A Chapman Street resident told police about a possible squatter living in a home on the street. The home was in foreclosure and had a combination lock on it, but when police investigated they found the door ajar. The home was uninhabitable, with the electricity and water shut off. Officers went inside and found a woman under a blanket on a couch. She told police she had permission from the property owner’s son to stay there, but police were able to confirm this was not the case. The woman was removed from the home and the 41-year-old homeless woman was summonsed to Waltham District Court for daytime breaking and entering for a misdemeanor.
