Watertown High School athletes are competing in the post-season, and not just for team sports.
Cross Country
Emily Koufos competed against the top runners in schools of Watertown’s size in the Div. 5 Eastern State Championships and finished in fourth place. The performance came on the heels of winning the Middlesex League meet.
The WHS senior ran a time of 19:11.95 over the 5K course at the Wrentham Developmental Center on Saturday. She will return to Wrentham on Nov. 18 for the All-State Cross Country Meet.
Watertown runners senior Elizabeth Powderly finished 41st and sophomore Lakshmi Thangaraj finished 43rd in the race. The Watertown girls finished 15th at the meet.
On the boys side, senior Jack Barry finished 45th and senior Gus Brouliard finished 55th. The boys team finished 17th.
Swimming Improves at League Meet
The joint Arlington-Watertown girls swim team swam at the Middlesex League Championships and improved from last year, when the team was just made up of Arlington swimmers.
Freshman Lily Barker from Arlington took two second places at the meet. She swam the 200 freestyle in 2:03.37 and finished the 500 free in 5:27.44. She was named a League Alls-Star, head coach Adlar Su said.
Senior Li Ping Titterington of Watertown finished 11th in the 200 free.
The team finished in ninth place, one spot higher than last year. The 90 points was 37.5 more than last year and was just 3 points behind eighth place Woburn.
The North Section meet is Nov. 17, and Barker qualified in the 200 free and 500 free, along with the 20o medley relay, the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay teams.
Tournament Games
Two Watertown teams have moved on to the State Semifinals and another seeks a berth on Sunday.
The Raiders’ football team had a wild comeback to beat Lynnfield in the North Section final on Friday night. Watertown will face undefeated South Champs Dennis-Yarmouth on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at Hormel Stadium in Medford.
On Saturday, the Watertown field hockey team won its 10th straight North title by beating Manchester-Essex 1-0. The Raiders will take on Dennis-Yarmouth in the state semifinal at Braintree High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14
Sunday afternoon, the WHS boys soccer team defeated Melrose in the North Section final. The Raiders beat defending State Champs Wayland in the section semifinal. The state semifinal will be at Manning Field in Lynn on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
