Watertown High School’s football team made the MIAA State Tournament for the fifth straight season, despite a losing record.
The Raiders (3-4) are the sixth seed in the Div. 5 North Section, and will travel to face third-seeded Swampscott (6-1) for the section quarterfinal. The game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon.
In the past, Watertown has found success starting on the road in the playoffs. In 2015 the Raiders beat Lynnfield and North Reading on the road, and in 2013 they defeated Triton in an away game. However, Swampscott won the last time the two teams met in the playoffs in a quarterfinal game at Watertown in 2014.
The past two seasons the Raiders made it to the North Section final, losing last year at home to Triton and falling at Stoneham in 2015.
The other games in the Div. 5 North are No. 8 Bedford at No. 1 Lynnfield (Friday at 7 p.m.), No. 7 Triton at No. 2 Somerville (Friday at 7:30 p.m.) and No. 5 Newburyport at No. 4 Weston (TBA). The winner of Watertown-Swampscott faces the winner of the Somerville-Triton game.
There’s a typo. It should read, Saturday, October 30th.
