Two Highway Projects Will Impact Traffic Around the Boston Area

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation warns drivers about two roadwork projects that could impact traffic around the Boston area – one on the Mass. Turnpike and one on Rte. 128/I-95.

MassDOT sent out the following information:

Mass Pike Allston/Brighton Exit Closed

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced there will be off-peak, overnight ramp closures next week in the area of the former Allston/Brighton toll plaza on I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike) to allow crews to safely and effectively carry out construction operations.

The full traffic impacts for these operations are as follows:

I-90 eastbound Exit 18 off-ramps to Allston/Brighton closed with a detour to Exit 22

  • From 11 p.m., Monday, October 2, through 5 a.m., Tuesday, October 3
  • From 11 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, through 5 a.m., Wednesday, October 4
  • From 11 p.m., Thursday, October 5, through 5 a.m., Friday, October 6
  • Vehicles carrying hazardous cargo will not be permitted to utilize this detour route and must seek an alternate route.

On-ramps from Cambridge Street to I-90 westbound closed with a detour to Exit 22

  • From 11 p.m., Sunday, October 1, through 5 a.m., Monday, October 2
  • From 11 p.m., Monday, October 2, through 5 a.m., Tuesday, October 3
  • Vehicles carrying hazardous cargo will not be permitted to utilize this detour route and must seek an alternate route.

On-ramps from Cambridge Street to I-90 eastbound closed with a detour to Exit 17

  • From 11 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, through 5 a.m., Wednesday, October 4
  • From 11 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, through 5 a.m., Thursday, October 5
  • From 11 p.m., Thursday, October 5, through 5 a.m., Friday, October 6

I-90 westbound Exit 20 off-ramp closed with a detour to Exit 17

  • From 11 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, through 5 a.m., Thursday, October 5

Proper signage and variable message boards will be in place throughout the detour routes.

Rte. 128/I-95 Lane Closures in Needham/Wellesley

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that from 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, through 12:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, Route 128/I-95 northbound will be reduced to two lanes of travel between Central Avenue and the Route 9 interchange in Needham/Wellesley.

This travel impact is necessary in order to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct construction operations as part of the ongoing Route 128/I-95 Add-A-Lane project. All travel lanes on Route 128/I-95 southbound will be maintained during these times.

Drivers are encouraged to make informed decisions before heading out onto the roadways. Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers during these operations.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice. In case of inclement weather, operations will shift to the following weekend
