Some Stores Staying Open During Arsenal Yards Construction, Others Closing

Workers have been doing work to prepare for the beginning of construction of Arsenal Yards – the project that will transform the Arsenal Mall into a development with shopping, entertainment, dining, apartments and a hotel. During construction some stores will remain open, while others will shut their doors.

During the construction of Arsenal Yards several stores will remain open, all in the section near Marshall’s. The stores are Marshall’s, Gap Outlet, Ann Taylor Factory, T-Mobile, Piercing Pagoda, and Chipotle, according to Boylston Properties, the developer of the mall. In addition, the food court, including Burger King and Subway, will remain open until early 2018.

At the end of September several stores will close: Almoda, Charlotte Russe, Famous Footwear, Gymboree Outlet and Sprint.

Workers have begun working on relocating utility lines, and aligning drainage, water and sewer lines, according to Boylston Properties. These projects need to be completed before the construction can begin.

Construction will be done in several phases. Phase 1 includes remodeling the interiors of the historic Arsenal buildings – the one with Marshall’s and the one where Old Navy was located. Phase 2 includes a hotel, retail and a multi-level parking garage. Phase 3 will be considered by the Planning Board in October.

There will be some changes for how to get around the site.

“All Arsenal Yards site entrances remain active and passible. This week pedestrian access to Arsenal Yards from Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates will be shifted to the north side of the Marshall’s parking lot, crossing over to the center drive aisle sidewalk,” according to Boylston Properties.

Aside from a small area reserved for construction equipment and materials, the parking lot remains open for customer parking.
