A foursome of Watertown High School track athletes traveled to North Carolina to compete against the best prep track athletes in the nation.
The girls’ 4 x 800 meter relay team of senior Tina Touri, freshmen Elizabeth Powderly and Emily Koufos and junior Katherine Tolman ran in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday.
The team ran a time of 9:52.44, and finished 38th in the Emerging Elite competition, according to FlashResults.com. The tope team, Saline, Mich., ran a time of 9:19.06
The team qualified enjoyed some success this year. The foursome qualified for Nationals by running a 9:39.48 at the MTSCA Girls Coaches Invitational, and set a new Watertown High School record. They won the event at the Div. 4 MSTCA Spring Relays with a time of 9:55.25 (click here to see an interview with the team at the MSTCA meet).
They improved their time at the Middlesex League meet, taking first with a time of 9:43.58. They placed second at the MIAA Eastern Div. 4 Championships with a time of 9:48.75, and 20th in the All State Meet with a 10:03.26.
