Senior Brian DallaCosta showed he is the best all-around track athlete – winning the pentathlon at the MIAA East Div. 4 meet and setting a meet record. His win helped the Raiders finish fifth in the boys’ side of the meet at Norwell High School.
In the pentathlon, DallaCosta won the 11o hurdles (16.51 seconds), got second in the long jump (5.91 meters), won the high jump (1.73 meters) and the shot put (11.86 meters) and finished third in the 1500 (5:11.10). His total of 2907 points broke the meet record of 2609, which DallaCosta set in 2014. His performance in the high jump and shot put also set the meet record in the pentathlon competition.
DallaCosta recently set the school record in the triple jump at the Middlesex League meet.
Senior Amin Touri finished second in the 800 meters. He ran it in 2:00.13.
The boys’ 4 x 400 relay also came in second, running the race in a time of 3:34.52.
Senior Prosper Lubega jumped to third place in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet. He also ran the 400 hurdles in 59.97 to grab sixth place.
The meet had been scheduled for Sunday, but was rained out then and on Monday. The Raiders finally got to compete on Wednesday.
The Raiders’ girls’ 4 x 800 meter relay team had the top performance for the girls’ team, coming in second with a time of 9:48.75. The Raiders finished 11th in the girls’ team competition.
Junior Katherine Tolman claimed third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.23.
Freshman Emily Koufos finished fifth place in the 800 with a time of 2:22.85.
Senior Keegan Duguay’s time of 16.72 in the 100 hurdles earned her seventh place.
Freshman Elizabeth Powderly ran the 2 mile in 11:53.65, which earned her ninth place.
Several Raiders will compete in the All-State Track Meet at Fitchburg State on Saturday: DallaCosta (pentathlon), Touri (800), Lubega (high jump) and the 4 x 400 relay on the boys side; and Tolman and the 4 x 800 relay on the girls’ side.
