The Raiders girls basketball squad held on to defeat a pesky Tewksbury Thursday night and now have a clash with their rivals in the MIAA Div. 2 North Section semifinals.
Undefeated and top seeded Watertown trailed at halftime, 21-19, to eighth seeded Tewksbury (13-9), and led by just one after three quarters Thursday, according to the Lowell Sun. The Raiders, who were led by Shannon Murphy’s 15 points, pulled away to win the section quarterfinal 49-45, according to the Boston Globe report.
The Raiders (19-0) now have a rematch with Belmont, the team they beat on the opening day of the season in December. Watertown won 53-42, but the game was tied in the third quarter.
The fifth seeded Marauders (16-6) beat Bedford 57-51 on Thursday to reach the section semis.
The game is tentatively scheduled to be played Wednesday, March 4 at 8 p.m. at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s gym at 576 Easter Ave. in Malden. The outcome of the boys hockey game could change the schedule, said WHS Athletic Director Michael Lahiff.
