Watertown High School will send both the boys and girls hockey teams to the MIAA tournament with hopes of going farther than last year when both teams lost narrow games.
The girls, who have a coop team with Belmont, earned the fourth seed in the Div. 1 tournament with a record of 18-3-1. The Maraiders play the winner of the Andover-Billerica game in a game on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Ryan Arena in Watertown.
A win would likely mean Watertown-Belmont would play fifth-seed Austin Prep. They are also on the same half of the bracket as top-seed Reading.
Last year the girls lost 1-0 in the quarterfinals to Duxbury, the team that went on to win the state championship.
The Watertown boys team faces Dracut on Tuesday at 8 in the first round of the Div. 3 North Section tournament at O’Brien Ice Rink, located at 55 Locust St. in Woburn (Joyce Middle School), according to the Boston Herald.
The Raiders finished 10-3-7 and got the seventh seed. Dracut is the 10th seed. The winner plays No. 2 seed Northeast Regional in the quarterfinals.
Last year, Watertown lost in the section semifinals 1-o in overtime to Wayland, which won the Div. 3 North Section.
