Watertown Helps Out! Fourth Annual Community Day of Service kicks off Saturday, May 6, 8:30 a.m. at the Arsenal Project
How do you give back to the community? Where are organizations that need your help? Are there opportunities for your family to serve? In 2014, the Watertown Community Foundation created a townwide day of service, Watertown Helps Out, to fill this need. This year, the Fourth Annual Watertown Helps Out day of community service will run Saturday, May 6 starting at 8:30 a.m. with light refreshments at the Arsenal Project. It’s free, open to all, and there are family-friendly projects for volunteers of all ages.
How does it work? Community non-profits identify projects they need done. These can be anything from gardening and yard work, assembling raised beds, cleaning trash from bicycle paths and parks or washing furniture in a community center. There are indoor projects including assembling craft kits for children, creating graduation packets for high schoolers and making outreach phone calls, as well as many outdoor projects. Most run from 10:00 am to mid-afternoon, and many can be done for as little as an hour.
Volunteers register online here with an email address and choose a project. Last year, over 325 volunteers helped out. Once you register, you can see the list of volunteer opportunities. The details of an activity you view will be available, and you choose whatever activity fits you best.
Join us on Saturday, May 6, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Arsenal Project for light refreshments. Then get a T-shirt and head out to your chosen project!
