As 2025 begins, Watertown has seen one restaurant close, while an addition has been made to the eating scene.
Restaurant Says ‘Bye Bye’
Olespana Whiskey & Tapas Bar on Mt. Auburn Street announced that it will be closing. The restaurant that served Spanish food, pizza and other dishes had opened in the former Mount Auburn Grill space in 2023.
On Jan. 3, Olespana put out a post on Instagram saying, “Bye Bye. We are closed for good. Thanks to everyone for your support.”
The space may not stay dark for long, as there are plans to open a restaurant in the same space with a different focus.
Mexican Eatery Open
Plazita Mexico Tacos recently began serving a range of food from South of the Border at 385 Main St., in the space that used to be home to The Spot Cafe.
The menu includes more than a dozen kinds of tacos, many burritos, bowls, and tortas sandwiches, and even ramen.
The Plazita website says, “Our culinary journey began on a family farm in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, where generations have cultivated a deep love for fresh, quality ingredients. This passion is reflected in our homemade tortillas and salsas, crafted with care to complement our diverse selection of tacos, from carnitas to al pastor.”
The Watertown restaurant is the second one for Plazita, which also has Wakefield location.
