Call for Artists

The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the time when Armenian American artist Arshile Gorky lived in Watertown, and the Mosesian Center for the Arts will be a part of town-wide events honoring Gorky’s work.

We invite artists to submit artwork that recognizes the importance of drawing as a vital artistic practice. The work does not need to directly relate to Gorky’s work. We are looking for artwork that celebrates concepts found in Gorky’s drawings such as drawing as a metaphor, its power of transformation and a sense of mystery. The work can be representational or conceptual in nature.

Mosesian Arts is excited to welcome the well-known Boston artist and educator Bill Flynn as a co-curator for this exhibition.

Submission deadline: January 21, 2025

Intro to Drawing

Drawing is for everyone! This class is designed for students who are new to drawing and students who have had some experience in the past and would like to start regular drawing practice. Students will learn through observation using pencils, pens, charcoal, and ink and will be given the opportunity to experiment with materials and techniques to discover their own style and way of working. Objects, still-lives and photographs will be used to practice with different materials and techniques.

Mentally Preparing for Auditions

Grades 6-12

Mentally preparing for auditions is just as important as learning the monologue, the 32-counts of a song, or physically warming up before the dance call. In this workshop, young performers will learn specific psychological skills such as breathwork and visualization, that they can incorporate into their routines before auditions. Mental skills training can help performers focus their energy, calm anxiety, and increase confidence, improving their overall performance.

Angelica Potter has an MA in Performance Psychology and as a mental performance consultant works primarily with performing artists and artistic athletes at all levels providing support, knowledge, and guidance so they can perform at their best. www.artistspsych.com

This workshop has a pay-what-you-can sliding scale from $10-$25. Please pay what is best for your family. Those who can afford the higher tuition help support community members who need to pay the lower cost.
