Police Log: Banner at Armenian Church Vandalized, Business Receives More Than $90K in Fraudulent Orders

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Nov. 10, 2 a.m.: Officers on patrol spotted a vehicle stopped on Arsenal Street with its lights on and the vehicle running. They saw the driver slumped over the center console so the conducted a wellness check. Police observed the driver had an odor of alcohol on her breath and she had glassy and bloodshot eyes. Field sobriety tests were administered and police placed Vanese Gordon, 22, of Amesbury, under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Nov. 10, 2:20 p.m.: A shoplifting suspect walked past the register at Target without paying for $344 worth of merchandise.

Nov. 10: A package was reported stolen from a home on Waverley Avenue. It contained $15 worth of clothing and was confirmed to be delivered on Nov. 9.

Nov. 12, 6:50 p.m.: A man and woman were seen shoplifting at Target. The pair was stopped by security after they stole $145 worth of merchandise. Store security recognized the man from four previous incidents in September and October where he took a total of $905 in items. Aman Kumar, 22, of Boston was arrested on five counts of larceny under $1,200. The woman was summoned to Waltham District Court on one count of larceny under $1,200.

Nov. 13: Sterritt Lumber reported that the business had been the victim of a scam. They received an order from what they believed to be from Yale University for 561 pine boards that cost a total of $18,756. They received an identical order, and then a third one for 1,672 boards for $56,502. The boards were delivered to an address in Trenton, New Jersey. They realized it was fraudulent and reported it to police, who are investigating.

Nov. 13, 3:30 p.m.: A woman took $142 worth of merchandise from Target.

Nov. 18: Police received a report of a banner at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church that had been vandalized. The banner celebrated the Pontifical visit by His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church in October. Someone painted over the word Holiness with black spray paint, and tried to deface Aram I’s photo with blue ben. Police are investigating.

Nov. 18: A vehicle parked on Edgecliff Road was broken into sometime after 6 p.m. on Nov. 17. The vehicle had been left unlocked and some personal items were taken. Police are investigating.

Nov. 19, 11:30 a.m.: A man was seen urinating on a wall on Mt. Auburn Street by police officers. They recognized the man from previous incidents. Officers approached the man, and discovered he had two active warrants. James Nucci, 52, of Cambridge, was arrested for two warrants out of Cambridge District Court, one for trespassing and one for larceny under $1,200.

Nov. 20, 11 p.m.: A vehicle that was parked on Mt. Auburn Street at 4 p.m. was broken into, and personal items were taken.
