Police Log: Two Drunk Driving Arrests, Man Acting Suspiciously Arrested on Warrants

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Oct. 24, 5:31 p.m.: Two men were spotted in CVS on Mt. Auburn Street and a short time later employees heard a crash and saw them wheeling a green basket filled with 115 bags of candy worth $502.

Oct. 25 at 9:15 p.m.: A motor vehicle accident occurred at the rotary at Orchard and Common streets. Officers spoke with the driver who smelled of alcohol on his breath, and he was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes. He admitted to drinking a beer at his home earlier in the day. Field sobriety tests were conducted and Khalim Anderson, 42, of Watertown, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol — a second offense.

Oct. 26, 2:30 a.m.: Police were doing a property check at Cunniff Elementary School and observed a suspicious man in the parking lot. He had a flashlight and was looking at vehicles charging at the electric vehicle charging stations. Police spoke to the man and discovered he had three warrants for his arrest: two from Boston District Court — one for shoplifting and one for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — and one from Cambridge District Court for trespassing. Joseph Edge II, 55, of Boston, was arrested on the warrants.

Oct. 26, 9:30 a.m.: A resident discovered that someone had filed an unemployment claim in their name, but she is not unemployed.

Oct. 26, 4 p.m.: Asset protection at Target spotted a man take $189 worth of merchandise.

Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.: A Segway scooter was taken from a front porch. The resident went outside and heard a noise from the front porch and saw what he believes to be three juveniles take the scooter, which is worth $650. Police are investigating.

Oct. 27, 5:45 a.m.: A single vehicle accident occurred on Lexington Street, and when Police arrived they noticed heavy front-end damage and the airbags had deployed. Officers spoke with the driver, who said she didn’t know what happened. Her eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and her speech was slurred. An odor of alcohol was detected on her breath and field sobriety tests were conducted. Caroleasa Hamlett, 52, of Boston, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Oct. 27, 1:30 p.m.: A man entered the Nike store and took a pair of Jordan sneakers valued at $70 and concealed them under his belt and left the store.

Oct. 27 5:51 p.m.: Police received a report of a probation violation and served the warrant. Javeon Phillips, 21, of Watertown was arrested on the probation warrant out of Boston.

Oct. 29, 8 a.m.: A vehicle was parked at Victory Field on Oct. 28 and when the owner returned at 7:30 a.m. on the 29th he saw the right rear window had been smashed and there were cracks on the rear passenger window. Police are investigating.

Oct. 29, 2:21 p.m.: A resident dropped a check in the mail near City Hall but it was intercepted, altered and made out for $6,700.

Oct. 31: Two people went into Target and took $117 worth of items, placed them in a bag and walked past the registers without paying.

Oct. 30, 5:03 p.m.: A woman entered Target, took 28 pieces of merchandise worth $280, and left the store.
