Watertown’s girls’ basketball and boys’ hockey teams enjoyed a successful winter break by wracking up the wins.
The Raiders girls’ basketball squad won the Bellingham Tournament holiday tournament with victories over Natick and Bellingham. Then the team came home and beat Wakefield 53-34 to improve to 6-0, according to the report in The Raider Times, WHS’s student newspaper.
Watertown sits in first place in the Middlesex League Freedom Division with a 4-0 league record.
Boys’ Hockey Unbeaten Streak
Watertown’s boys’ hockey team skated to a five game unbeaten streak, on the strength of two shutouts by senior goalie Anthony Busconi.
The Raiders beat Winchester 4-3, Westborough 1-0, Swampscott 5-1 and Nashoba Regional 5-0, according to The Raider Times. The team rode the winning streak to a 4-1 after losing to Arlington 3-0 in the season opener.
Then the Raiders tied Burlington 2-2 on Jan. 3.
Junior Tyler Gardiner lead the team along the way with five goals.

- The boys’ basketball team struggled out of the game and currently has a record of 2-4, with wins at Winchester and over Salem in the Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic at Merrimack College.
- After a 1-2 start, the Watertown-Belmont girls’ hockey team improved to 4-2-1 with a 3-3 tie against Falmouth, and wins of 7-0 versus Wakefield, 5-1 at Medford and 4-1 at Burlington.
- Both the boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams have 0-2 records and the wrestling team is 1-5 in dual meets and finished 11th place in the Wakefield Tournament.
