The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Jan. 23, 5:30 p.m.: Home Depot security saw a man get onto a motorized shopping cart and took items off the shelf and put them in the basket. The man then went to the back of the store and put the items, which included a drill, under his jacket. The man drove the cart past the registers and was stopped. He had a total of $802.44 in merchandise. The 26-year-old Canterbury, Conn., man was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250.
Jan. 27, 10:36 p.m.: An officer on North Beacon Street clocked a vehicle driving 52 mph in a 30 zone. The red Ford Escape was pulled over and when the officer ran the plate he found the vehicle had been stolen from Boston on Dec. 20, 2016. When officers asked the driver his name he gave a false one. Police were able to get his real name through finger prints and found he had a suspended license, and two warrants. The 45-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, speeding, a warrant out of Middlesex Superior Court and a second out of Quincy District Court, an arrestee giving a false name and a driver giving a false name.
Jan. 28, 12:20 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Galen Street spotted a vehicle run a red light and make a turn from Galen onto Nonantum Road. When the vehicle was pulled over, the officer detected an odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The man admitted to drinking alcohol before driving, and failed field sobriety tests. Police also discovered he had been arrested for OUI on a previous occasion. The 36-year-old Newton man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol – a second offense, an failing to stop.
Incidents
Jan. 23, 1:05 p.m.: A man told police he had listed his Xbox 1 on sale on Facebook and Craigslist for $320 and was contacted by a man who said his name was Brian. They arranged to meet in the parking lot of the Watertown Mall to make the sale. The buyer gave the man three $100 bills and four $5 bills. Later the seller realized the $100 bills were counterfeit. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a green Volkswagen Jetta.
Jan. 23, 3 p.m.: A window was broken at the URELL Co. on Coolidge Avenue when a glass bottle was thrown through it. The bottle also damaged the wall.
Jan. 25, 8:50 p.m.: Two neighbors on Fayette Street got into a disagreement and one resident threw food on the other’s car from her window. Police responded and restored the peace.
Jan. 27, 2:10 p.m.: The manager of Piercing Pagoda in the Arsenal Mall noticed that four deposits since late October were missing. Police are investigating.
Jan. 27, 8:20 p.m.: A fire started on a wooden pallet with items wrapped in plastic at a business on Arsenal Way. The Fire Department responded and put out the blaze, but it did approximately $5,000 in damages to the exterior of the building. No one was no injuries. Fire investigators believe the fire may have been started by a discarded cigarette.
Jan. 28, 3:45 p.m.: A customer left a credit card at Claire’s Boutique in the Arsenal Mall and when she returned it was gone. She later was informed that it had been used at Claire’s Boutique, at The Foot Locker and at Famous Footwear. A total of $465.63 was charged to the card. Police are investigating.
Jan 29, 11:30 a.m.: Hillside Avenue residents reported that someone shot paint balls at their front door. There was no significant damage and the paint washed off.
