This is the time of year for counting herring at the Watertown Dam, and they always need volunteers to do that! (Sign up here!) The Charles River Watershed Association has created a new festival to celebrate these special local fish. There’s fun to be had and much to learn about the fish, the dam, and the river.
Pro wrestling will be coming to Watertown on Saturday night,. If you would rather work on your step count while exploring beautiful Mt. Auburn cemetery, there are two on offer, one hosted by our library and one by the American Pilgrims of the Camino. This can help you prepare for the Camino walk in Spain Camino Info. There’s a meditation class starting at the library for mellow time, and a Peace Now art exhibit to help you decorate your home with something new and cool. Once you have meditated on the fish, art, and historic pilgrimages in Spain, you can relax at home on Sunday evening, a weekend well done.

Join the Charles River Watershed Association at the Watertown Dam on Saturday, June 8th, to celebrate the migration of Alewife, Blueback Herring, and American Shad from the ocean into the Charles River! Attend to learn about fish migration, dam removal, and climate resilience at stations throughout the festival. Join guided walks around the Watertown Dam, interact with the watershed in a box with X-Cel Education, test your fish trivia at the River of Dreams booth, learn to cast with Trout Unlimited, and more!
Get creative at the community art build led by local artist Kari Percival! Participants can make fish hats, get their faces painted, and screen print their own T-shirts.

PEACE NOW GROUP ART SHOW/FLEA MARKET

There will be a group art exhibit and flea market at Fort Gallery. The exhibit includes art by Alvan Long, Billy Best, Jess Punk, Solon Perry and Dave TREE. The art flea market will be outside the gallery. There will be a variety of items for sale including music, art supplies, canvases, and T-shirts. Refreshments will be served.

MOUNT AUBURN WALK AND TERTULIA with American Pilgrims on the Camino

Join the American Pilgrims Boston Chapter for a leisurely ~3-mile walk. This will be followed by an informal tertulia at Sofra Bakery & Cafe, 1 Belmont St, Cambridge, MA 02138. Participants are welcome to join for both or either part of this event. We expect to arrive at the bakery around 12:00 p.m. Meet at the sheltered brochure stand situated between the two main gates on Mount Auburn Street. Please observe stated parking regulations; spots are usually available on the circular drive right near the Mount Auburn St. entrance, in front of Story Chapel.
