The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Nov. 11, 1:15 a.m.: The Probation Department at Waltham District Court alerted the Watertown Police that a Beechwood Avenue resident was wanted for a probation violation. Police arrested the 48-year-old Watertown man without incident.
Nov. 16, 9:35 p.m.: A woman was spotted walking through the Watertown Street Stop & Shop and putting groceries and other items into a bag she was carrying. She then put clothing on top of the items. The woman went to checkout and paid for some items, but attempted to leave without paying for the rest. She was stopped and had $601.62 in unpaid merchandise. The 31-year-old Watertown woman was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250.
Nov. 17, 6:30 a.m.: A car struck a parked vehicle on Nyack Street causing major damage to the parked one. When police spoke to the driver, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the man’s breath. The man said he had been drinking before getting in his vehicle. He failed three field sobriety tests and police also found an open Modelo beer in the vehicle. The 26-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
Nov. 18, 10:40 p.m.: Police were alerted about a probation violation by Waltham District Court. The suspect lived in the same Beechwood Avenue address as the arrest earlier in the week, but the warrant was for a different person. The 47-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the warrant for a probation violation.
Nov. 20, 9:35 a.m.: A driver was pulled over after running a stop sign at Palfrey and Spring streets. When Police checked the driver’s record, they found he had an outstanding warrant. The 26-year-old Dorchester man was arrested on the warrant from Cambridge District Court for driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
Incidents
Nov. 15, 6:10 p.m.: Target security spotted a woman putting merchandise into a purse. She then took boots off the shelf and put them on her feet, and tried to leave without paying. She had women’s clothing, beauty supplies and winter clothing, worth a total of $165.14. The 23-year-old Quincy woman was summonsed to Waltham District Court on a charge of shoplifting over $100.
Nov. 17, 4:50 a.m.: Residents called 911 when a smoke detector went off at a building on Mt. Auburn Street. The smoke was caused by someone leaving food on a stove, which was on, and going to bed. No serious damage was reported and no one was injured.
Nov. 17, 8 p.m.: A woman realized her wallet had been taken from her bag when she went to pay at Not Your Average Joe’s and she could not find it. She recalled when she was dining a man approached her table and asked if she would reach over to get some napkins. After she gave him the napkins, the man abruptly left the restaurant. The man is described as white, 6 feet tall, with a thin build, dark hair, a scruffy beard and wore a dark colored hoody. Later in the day, one of the woman’s credit cards was used at a gas station in Revere.
Nov. 18, 6:15 p.m.: A woman flagged down police at Target to report that her baby bag, which contained her credit card, driver’s license and cash, was missing. She believes she left it in a cart in the Target parking lot, and then drove away. She returned when she realized she had left it there, but it was gone. Store security looked at video, which showed a woman take the baby bag, and leave in a dark colored sedan.
Nov. 19, 3 p.m.: The rear window of a vehicle was smashed while parked on Standish Road. It does not appear anyone entered the vehicle and nothing was missing.
Nov. 19, 7:30 p.m.: A man went to GymIt to work out and put items on a hook in an open area of the locker room before working out. When he returned, his GymIt card, a watch and his car and house keys were missing. While police were there, another member came up to report his keys were stolen from items hanging in the same area of the locker room. An employee recalled a person coming in that afternoon and leaving after 15 minutes without working out. It was determined the person got in using the GymIt card of a member who had reported his card stolen. Police are investigating.
Nov. 20, 7:45 p.m.: A man came into Vahey’s Liquors on Main Street about 4 p.m. and began using vulgar language with the staff. He left without buying anything. At 7:40 p.m., the man returned to the store and became verbally abusive and made threats to harm the staff. When police arrived, the man was outside. He said he had been in earlier with his dog and the staff treated him disrespectfully. The man continued to threaten the employees in front of the police. The 37-year-old Watertown man was trespassed from the store and was summonsed to Waltham District Court for threatening to commit a crime.
