Eleanor Nixon
Eleanor L. (Allers) Nixon of Watertown passed away at the age of 92 after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, November 18, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Watertown in 1924, she was a graduate of Watertown High School, Class of 1942. Widow of the late Samuel B. Nixon (former Captain Watertown Fire Department). Mother of Judi Nixon Holmberg of Watertown and Scott D. Nixon (former Call Captain, Avon Fire Department) and his wife Suzanne of Raynham. Adored Nana of Heather Holmberg Dummett and her husband Eleazer of Marlborough, Heidi Holmberg Mastroianni of Newton, Holly Holmberg of Watertown, Kimberly Nixon Olsen and her husband Craig of Medway and Jonathan Nixon of Raynham. Great-Grandmother Nana of Carter and Jayden Dummett, Lydia and Vincent Mastroianni, Hadley and Emmett Olsen.
Eleanor worked for the Watertown School System for 23 years. She loved the Lord and her church family, and singing in the choir. Traveling & playing cribbage were her passions, and she was active at the Watertown Senior Center.
She was a member of the Watertown Woman’s Club for years, and also a former board member of “The Club 50” WSB. Eleanor was a sweet, caring, and devoted friend. She led a happy, fulfilled, and loving life. She was known by many as “The Lady.”
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St., Watertown. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.

I first met Eleanor at the Browne School. Consider myself very fortunate to be called her friend for all these years. Eleanor sponsored my membership into the Watertown Woman’s Club many years ago. A Bright Light in Watetown now glows high in Heaven back with Sam. My deepest sympathy to the Nixon family. Thank you for sharing this Great Lady with us. May God wrap you in His loving arms and bring strength and love to you at this sad time. Rest in Peace, Dear Friend, until we meet again.
