Tuesday treated one Watertown candidate well, and another finished the Primary Election on the wrong side of the vote.
Former State Sen. Warren Tolman lost his race in the Democratic primary for attorney general to Maura Healey. Tolman conceded Tuesday night. Healey had received 62 percent of the vote with 89 percent of the precincts reporting. Healey faces Republican John Miller in November’s general election.
Watertown’s Marilyn Petitto Devaney the Democratic vote for Governor’s Council Third District by defeating Newton’s Charlie Shapiro in the Democratic primary. With 96 percent of the votes counted, Devaney had 54 percent of the votes. She will now face Tom Sheff of Newton, who is running as an Independent candidate. Devaney seeks her ninth term on the council, which reviews candidates for appointment by the governor.
Watertown State Reps. Jonathan Hecht and John Lawn and State Sen. Will Brownsberger all ran unopposed.
In other races, Martha Coakley won the Democratic primary for governor and will face GOP winner Charlie Baker. Stephen Kerrigan will be the Dems’ candidate for lieutenant governor and faces Karyn Polito, who had no opposition on the Republican side.
Katherine Clark easily won the Democratic race for Congress (5th District) with 81 percent of the vote, with 98 percent of the precincts counted.
Deborah Goldberg won the Democratic primary for State Treasurer with 43 percent of the votes in a three person race, with 90 percent reporting.
Marian Ryan lead in the Democratic primary for Middlesex District Attorney by 16 points with 86 percent reporting.
