The Raiders had a game on their hands for the first 30 minutes of the North Section field hockey quarterfinal Friday afternoon against Weston, leading just 1-0. However, the first minute of the second half set the tone for the rest of the game.
Watertown senior Aurora Fidler scored just 56 seconds in to the second half on a pass from Lauren Petrillo, which doubled the Raiders’ lead. Senior Kourtney Kennedy scored the team’s lone first half goal with an assist from sophomore Gabby Venezia.
Next it was the underclassmen’s turn to add to Watertown’s total. Sophomore Catherine Connors scored 6 minutes into the second half, and a minute later freshman Ally Kennedy hit the back of the net. Kourtney Kennedy got the assist on Connors’ goal and junior Sydney Poulin made the pass to set up Ally Kennedy’s goal.
Venezia scored twice, once 17 minutes into the second half, and again just a minute later. Junior Maddie Leitner provided the assist on both tallies.
Weston did not go away quietly, however. Tuesday Ford scored with 10 minutes left, but that was as close as they would get to the Raiders.
Watertown improves to 19-0 and will head to the North Section semifinal where they will take on Triton (14-4-2), a 1-0 winner over Marblehead on Tuesday. The day, time and location for the game has not been announced yet.
