The Watertown Hight School football team took down Plymouth South 24-6 Friday night in an non-league game that could be very helpful in the Raiders’ efforts to get back into the playoffs.
Watertown improved to 2-0 on the season and the team was led once again by the feet and arms of senior quarterback Deon Smith.
Smith drove down the field on the Raiders’ first possession for the opening score at Victory Field. Much of the yardage came from Smith’s running, but senior Vasken Kebabjian picked up a good chunk on a run of his own.
The touchdown came on a run around the left side by Smith from five yards out.

The second score came on a one-play drive. Junior wide receiver John Korte brought in a pass from Smith, fended off a defender and ran for a score of nearly 70 yards.
A second quarter Plymouth South drive was stopped when Panthers quarterback Alex Cohen’s pass was intercepted by Watertown sophomore Yoseph Hamadin the end zone.
Watertown led 14-0 and half, and finished the game 24-6.

The win is the second non-league win for the Raiders in 2016. Because Plymouth South play in a higher division – 2A compared to 3 for Watertown – the win has added weight in the calculations for the MIAA tournament.
Watertown stays at Victory Field for its next game against Wakefield on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
