The summer break might be over but you’ll still find a broad variety of the season’s harvest at the Watertown Farmers Market. Local farms and specialty producers continue to gather every Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. through until the end of October.
On the front green of the Arsenal on the Charles, right on Arsenal Street in front of Arsenal Center for the Arts, the space is an exceptional place to enjoy the live music, grab a quick snack, and shop for delicious foods to bring home.
Among the market’s offerings are farm-fresh vegetables from Kitchen Garden Farm, Paraveda Farm and The Farm School. Apex Orchards have several different varieties of apples. Looking for apples with more of a kick? Carr’s Ciderhouse sells hard cider, vinegar and switchel, an old-timey syrup that’s refreshing with water or seltzer and tasty in cocktails. Sustainably raised meats and eggs, along with maple and honey, are available from Lilac Hedge Farm while Red’s Best Seafood brings a variety of coastal seafood. Using locally sourced ingredients, you’ll find cheese on sale at the booths for Jasper Hill Farm and Central Bottle, fresh squeezed juices from Powerhouse Juice, and sauerkraut and firecracker carrots from Cauldron Fermented Foods, as well as tamales to eat right away or to bring home from Tex Mex Eats. Soluna Garden Farm has fresh cut flowers as well as dried herbs and spice mixes with plants gathered their own farm.
Iggy’s Bread offers a variety of their delicious breads, rolls and bagels. For those with a sweet tooth, be sure to visit Treats on Washington for donuts, sweet breads, and brownies, Tipping Cow Ice Cream for their unique flavors (Sweet Corn Ice Cream!), and Ava’s Caramel Popcorn that’s the best you’ve ever tried.
Service businesses are part of the market. Landry’s Bicycles stops by every other week and provides free mini bike tune-ups and small repairs. On the Edge Sharpening Service gives new life to your kitchen and garden tools and stops by once a month.
The market continues to offer a weekly SNAP-match to low income residents shopping with EBT benefits (formerly “food stamps”). Each week customers can visit the market manager tent to swipe their EBT card and receive a 1-to- 1 match up to $15, turning $15 of food assistance into $30 of fresh healthy food at market. The market also accepts WIC and senior coupons as well as credit cards and cash.
There’s always something new and fun at the market!
The Watertown Farmers Market is sponsored and hosted by AthenaHealth and managed by Relish Management.
