Oct 17, 2:15 p.m.: A vehicle was rear-ended while stopped at the light on Galen Street at Watertown Street heading toward Newton. The suspect went around the vehicle that had been struck and headed toward Newton. It was an older-model Honda Pilot. The bumper of the vehicle that was hit sustained damage that will cost about $800 to repair.
Oct. 17, 3 p.m.: A person from Parker Street received a call from Watertown Savings informing the resident of an unauthorized check. The $6,800 check had been cashed over the weekend, and made to “Noel,” and “Student Loans” was written in the memo. The bank did not cash the check, and police are investigating.
Oct. 17, 6 p.m.: A woman from Main Street attempted to purchase a couch she found on Facebook Marketplace. She agreed to pay $125 and sent the money on CashApp. Afterward she was not able to contact the seller, who went by Em Rose, to arrange for delivery. The seller’s Facebook Marketplace and CashApp accounts were deleted when the resident tried to contact her.
Oct. 18, 7:23 p.m.: Best Buy called Police to report a man who had take multiple items from the store. Surveillance footage showed the man taken multiple pairs of headphones and put them in a Target shopping bag. He was still in the store and officers confronted him. The man admitted to taking the headphones, and while they spoke with the man security from Target came over and said the same man had shoplifted there, too. He was seen grabbing a backpack and putting a jacket, jeans, a padlock and headphones into the bag and leaving without paying. The video from Target showed a woman with him when he took the items from Target. She was located in the parking lot. The 34-year-old man from Lynn was summoned to Waltham District Court on two counts of shoplifting, and the 30-year-old woman (the man’s wife) from Lynn was summoned on one count of shoplifting.
Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m.: A vehicle crashed through the front yard of a home on Church Street and damaged two parked vehicles. The driver was going around the rotary at Common, Church and Orchard streets when she noticed that she had missed the turn. She attempted to turn onto Church Street, and went toward the median. She tried to hit the brake but instead hit the gas. This caused the vehicle to go over the median at a high rate of speed, strike a sign in front of the home, go through the front yard, and hit a vehicle parked in the driveway with enough force that it was pushed into a second vehicle in the driveway. The driver’s vehicle and the two parked vehicles sustained heavy damage. The driver, a 46-year old Peabody woman, was cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Oct. 21, 2 p.m.: The owner of a commercial property on Belmont Street reported that nearby residents had left trash bins on his property. It had been done for years because trash trucks had trouble going down Ashland Street, which intersects with Belmont Street. The rules for trash pickup changed, and the residents had been asked not to put their bins on the commercial property. They are working with the trash company to figure out a solution.
Oct. 22, 9:45 a.m.: A woman went into a store on Arlington Street for about an hour, and when she returned to her car she realized a prescription she had just picked up from CVS was missing from the front seat. The door had been left unlocked, and no other items were missing.
Oct. 22, 4 p.m.: An Arsenal Street resident received an email from Walmart saying that items she had ordered had been shipped, however, she had not made the purchases. She checked her bank statement and found two unauthorized transactions for a total of $102. Her card had been saved on her Walmart online account. The items had been shipped to Connecticut. Police are investigating.
Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m.: A black Android phone with a cracked screen was found on a rock on Franklin Street. Police are trying to locate the owner.
