A man did not agree that he deserved a speeding ticket and he decided to do his own sit in, which resulted in him being arrested.
On June 25 at 10:29 p.m., an officer saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed on Arsenal Street. The officer followed and observed the car weaving between cars, and appeared to be trying to evade police, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor.
The officer caught up with the vehicle on Main Street and pulled it over. He issued a ticket to the driver, who was adamant that he was not speeding, O’Connor said. The officer went back to his cruiser.
“Then he observed the man get out of his vehicle and approach the police car waving his arms and yelling at the officer,” O’Connor said. “The incident caused several pedestrians and vehicles in the area of the scene to stop.”
The officer told the man to calm down and get back in his car a few times, but he would not do so, O’Connor said.
“He kept yelling and threw the citation on the ground,” O’Connor said. “Then he sat in the street beside his vehicle and refused to move.”
The officer asked the driver to get back in his car multiple times, O’Connor said.
Because the man was creating a dangerous situation for himself and other drivers, the officer placed the man under arrest, O’Connor said.
Andrew Kalujjula, 24, of Holbrook, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, speeding and and resisting arrest, O’Connor said.
