A colorful arrangement of rocks sits in front of the Watertown Free Public Library, with each rock representing one of the 206 Massachusetts residents who lost their lives in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The installation was created by a group of Watertown students, who got a hand from the public, said Montserrat Llacuna, a freshman at Watertown High School who led the Middle School’s Project351 Watertown Team to create the tribute.
“After engaging the Watertown community in painting the 241 rocks, two members of my team and I finished the installation of our rock garden tribute to 9/11 in front of the Watertown Library,” Llacuna said. “Many words of hope, courage, and support were written on the rocks, and the two center ones hold the words ‘Remember the love and courage in the attacks of 9/11/2001’ and ‘No day shall ever erase you from the memory of time.'”
On Aug. 30, the students invited people to come help them paint the rocks for the display. The tribute will remain in front of the library for two weeks. The Watertown Library is located at 123 Main St. in Watertown.
