The following information was provided by the English High School 200th Anniversary Gala:
For the past year, long-time Watertown resident, Stephen M. Berkowitz, Director of the Alumni Association of The English High School of Boston — his alma mater — has devoted much of his
spare time to planning EHSA’s 200th Anniversary Gala to be held Oct. 1 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel.
The event is expected to draw some 500 alumni, families, friends, teachers, students, sponsors and donors. Founded in 1821, EHS was the first public high school in America. All are welcome on Oct. 1 but advance reservations are required. Visit https://englishhighalumni.org/
On his English High School Association volunteer activities, Berkowitz (Class of 1960) says, “My involvement provides enormous satisfaction and gratification working with students, faculty and alumni to carry on EHS’s long tradition of excellence.” He has been a Director since 2010.
After graduation from EHS, Berkowitz earned a BS at Boston University, an advanced certificate at College of Christ the King, Oxford London, and took 30 courses in International Banking at New England College of Finance. After retirement from banking in 2003, he opened a numismatics business specializing in the study and sale of ancient Greek and Roman coins. He is an active member of AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee) where he writes position papers on Israel aimed at members of Congress.
English High boasts an impressive ‘Who’s Who’ list of notable alumni who have impacted every aspect of American life in entertainment, government, business, military, and more. Among these have been actor Leonard Nimoy, WWII Supreme Allied Commander General Matthew Ridgway, and financier J. P. Morgan, to name a few.
For Gala information/reservations/sponsorship info, visit the EHSA website: https://englishhighalumni.org/ or contact Mike Thomas, President/CEO, 781-956-4774/ mthomas@englishhighalumni.org. Donors can double their gifts because, for a limited time, donations will be matched by another generous alum. Contact Thomas to add alumni names to the EHSA mailing list.
A man of honor and achievement!
A veritable resource of Greek and Roman history with incredible recall, Steve is a model of good citizenship, generosity, and inexhaustible wit! A dear friend for decades, Steve’s a mensch by any measure.

As I work on PR for my alma mater’s 200th birthday, I have found Stevphen to be insightful, knowledgeable and interested in the future of English High.
A wonderful man. Cultured, and as said above “A Mensch.”
