When I moved to the East End of Watertown almost fourteen years ago, it was a very conscious
choice. I was familiar with Watertown as I had often visited friends who lived here.
I knew that the East End was only a short electric bus ride to the Harvard Square transit hub. The neighborhood was served by both the 71 and 73 bus lines. I liked the ethnic vibe. I liked the food establishments and the small locally owned businesses. There was even a real hardware store. It felt like I could make a comfortable home here.
It is for this reason that I am voting for Nicole Gardner to be our East End Town Councilor and I encourage my neighbors to do the same. Nicole understands what makes the East End special. She also understands that at present the town faces many pressures. Some are common to many communities and some are unique.
Watertown has changed and it will continue to change. That is a certainty. What is at stake is whether each change will be for the better or for the worse. That requires a leader who is committed to thinking for the future, not one who is mired in the past. Watertown’s future can be even better than its past.
Nicole Gardner is the leader that we need. We need someone who is committed to articulating a positive vision for the future. We don’t need someone who will use fear tactics and sow divisiveness in order to win an election. Nicole has the character to be a positive leader for the East End.
