Watertown’s boys’ basketball team looked like it might pull off a big upset in the Div. 3 North Section quarterfinal Saturday night, but ultimately fell short.
The eighth-seeded Raiders (11-11) traveled to top-seeded North Reading (19-2) and had the Hornets on the ropes.
Watertown held a 16-point halftime lead and was up 40-26 with four minutes left in the third quarter. North Reading, however, turned it around and won 61-53, ending the Raiders season. See photos from the game here.
Boys Hockey Faces Weston
Two Watertown High School boy’s hockey team continues its defense of the 2015 state championship this week.
The boys hockey team returns home on Monday night to take on Weston in the Div. 3 North Section quarterfinal. That side of the bracket has been overturned by lower seeds.
The Raiders are the 13th seed, with a record of 10-11, but beat fourth-seeded Northeast Regional 3-0. Weston (9-9-3), too, pulled an upset. The 12th-seed shut out the 5th seeded St. Bernards 5-0.
The game will be at 7 p.m. at John A. Ryan Arena in Watertown. The winner plays in the section semifinal on March 10 at the Chelmsford Forum.
Girls Basketball Preps for Section Semi
The Raiders girls basketball team made the Eastern Mass. final at the TD Garden last year, and this year they look to make the state final.
The top-seeded Watertown girls basketball team rolled past ninth-seeded Danvers on Friday night to move on to the Div. 2 North Section semifinal. The Raiders will take on 13th-seed Triton, which upset fifth-seeded Swampscott on Saturday.
Watertown takes on Triton at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 at Wakefield High School. The winner of that game will play in the North Section final on Saturday, March 12.
