Police Log: Strange Man Approaches Middle School Students

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Arrests

Feb. 25, 7:10 p.m.: An officer patrolling in Watertown Square spotted a car run a red light going from Mt. Auburn Street to North Beacon Street. After stopping the vehicle, the officer checked the driver’s record and found he had a suspended license. The 27-year-old Waltham man was arrested for unlicensed driving and failing to stop.

Incidents

Feb. 23, 4:40 p.m.: Police received a report of a man who approached a group of six middle school students while they were walking after school on Waverley Avenue. The man told them he was running for president of the United States, and they were welcome to work for his campaign. The students left and one of them told his parents, who called police. The man was located and the school resource officer investigated. He found the man made no threats and did not attempt to lure the children.

Feb. 26, 4:05 p.m.: A woman reported that her violin bow was missing, and has been either lost or stolen. The bow is a Nurnberger brand and is worth $2,000. The woman said it has been missing for some time.

Feb. 27, 6:45 p.m.: The owner of a vehicle parked on Maplewood Street found two large scratches. It occurred overnight from Feb. 18 to 19.

Feb. 28, 10:45 a.m.: Overnight, someone put a yellow powder all over a vehicle parked on Union Street. It appears to be the powder that is used in fire extinguishers.
