The Watertown boys and girls basketball teams faced Middlesex League foe Winchester during Friday’s home openers, and had mixed results.
The boys basketball team struggled with the Sachems, trailing by 20 or more points during the second half.
Head Coach Steve Harrington’s team played fast paced, as always, and the pressure defense allowed the Raiders to get back within 10 points with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter.

Winchester, however, began to break the press and pulled away to win 65-48 in the early game at the WHS Gym.
The Raiders drop to 0-2 on the season, and have another home game against Reading on Monday at 5 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. game Wednesday at home against Burlington.

In the nightcap, the Watertown girls basketball team dominated in their second game of the year.
The Raiders came right out of the gate playing full-court press, which stymied the Winchester offense.

By the end of the first quarter, head coach Patrick Ferdinand’s team lead 22-3.
While they took off the press in the second quarter, the lead only grew, and the Raiders took a 34-6 lead to halftime.
Watertown (2-0) won by a final score of 54-15. The Raiders host two more home games next week – Reading on Monday at 7 p.m. and Burlington on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
