The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrest
Sept. 22, 2:30 p.m.: Police, were called to the area near Dunkin’ Donuts in Watertown Square for a man who appeared to be unsteady on his seat. He was seen walking back and forth on the sidewalk. Police located him and believed the man may have been under the influence of narcotics. Officers learned that the man had an outstanding warrant. The 33-year-old Brighton man was arrested on the warrant out of Newton District Court for uttering and larceny.
Incidents
Sept. 21, 10:17 a.m.: Police responded to a Madison Avenue home for a motor vehicle that had been broken into. The owner of the car said that she believes sometime overnight someone entered her vehicle and took medication she had left in plain view. She did not believe she locked the vehicle.
Sept. 21, 12:19 p.m.: A Watertown woman received a letter from a student loan consolidation company, but some of the information on the paperwork was incorrect. The woman called the company but was unable to speak to anyone in customer service so she went to the Police Station. While there, she received a call from the company informing her that she was approved for the loan. The woman canceled the loan. It does not appear she was out any money, but wanted it documented. It looks like someone tried to apply for a loan in her name.
Sept. 21, 5:39 p.m.: A Watertown man reported someone took his bike from the storage area at the Gables apartments on Arsenal Street. He said he last rode the bike on Sept. 6, and when he went back on Sept. 21 it was gone. The bike was a Specialized Tarmac Pro SL4, which was black with red stripes and valued at $2,000.
Sept. 23, 8:27 a.m.: The owner of a business on Main Street got a letter saying someone had applied for unemployment benefits. When he looked into it further, the man found someone used his name and Social Security Number on the application. The incident was reported to the Office of Unemployment Assistance. Police received a total of 10 unemployment fraud reports from Sept. 21-27.
Sept. 25, 10:40 a.m.: Police received a report of a possible case of identity fraud. The woman said on Sept. 24 she discovered that someone hacked into her Apple ID account and changed her accessibility permissions, and she was not able to get into her account. She believes the account was linked to her personal and bank information. Apple’s fraud division was alerted. It does not appear that anything had been compromised.
Sept. 27, 11:03 a.m.: A Holt Street resident reported a mountain bike had been stolen from his pickup truck. The 2020 Santa Cruz Hightower was secured to the bed of the pickup with straps. The owner said he did not secure the straps with a lock. He left it there on Sept. 26 and when he came out the next morning the bike was gone and the straps had been cut. The bicycle, which is tan and orange, is valued at $5,000.
