The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
One domestic arrest. The Watertown Police do not release names or information related to domestic incidents.
Incidents
Aug. 17, 11:45 p.m.: An officer patrolling near the Watertown Mall spotted some graffiti painted on a fence behind the Mall. The writing said “F— Sparky,” and it covered and area of about 3 feet by 3 feet. Police contacted the manager of the mall.
Aug. 17, 1:07 p.m.: Police received a report of a broken glass door at the Hair Cuttery on Mt. Auburn Street. The front door was shattered, but it did not appear that anyone had entered the building. The business is currently closed, but the owner was notified and the door was boarded up. It appears the door was broken sometime between noon and 1 p.m. on Aug. 17.
Aug. 17, 3:48 p.m.: An employee of Northeast Electrical got into a disagreement with a customer and the incident got physical. The customer was returning an item that he had purchased from the store, and a verbal confrontation arose. The disagreement became physical and the worker came out from behind the counter and physically confronted the customer. When the customer tried to leave the store, the employee punched him in the head. The customer continued out of the store and the employee followed him outside. Police got access to the video surveillance, which showed what had been described by the customer. They advised him that he could seek a complaint against the employee in Waltham District Court.
Aug. 17, 6:12 p.m.: A School Street resident had a package stolen from her property. She had ordered an iPhone 11 Pro, which cost $1,349. She received a conformation that UPS had delivered the package, but it was not there when she checked.
Aug. 18, 12:41 p.m.: A road rage incident was reported on Church Street near Main Street. The victim, a 68-year-old Waltham man, said he was riding behind a vehicle when a female passenger began yelling at him through the window. Then the vehicle pulled over and the driver, a man, got out and approached the bicyclist aggressively. Words were exchanged and the driver grabbed the bicycle and threw it to the ground. The cyclist had shoes clipped to the pedals and he fell to the ground when the bike was thrown down. The bicyclist sustained minor injuries, and the bike had some damage to the gears. The driver got into the vehicle and drove away. A license plate and description was given to the police, who are investigating.
Aug. 20, 12:43 p.m.: A woman parked in the garage of her apartment building and when she was walking up the stairs she saw Christmas ornaments that she recognized from her storage closet, including a wreath and a box of ornaments. She checked her storage area and found it unlocked and items were missing, including a beach chair and beach umbrella and the Christmas decorations. Police came to investigate and saw that the maintenance storage room had been broken into, and inside they found personal items that appeared to be from someone else. They also found a second storage closet unlocked, and the first resident’s beach chair was found inside. Police are investigating.
Aug. 20, 1:21 p.m.: Farina Cycle received a report from a credit card company saying that three bicycles purchases made in July were done so fraudulently with a credit card. As a result, the credit card company would not cover the cost of the bikes, so Farina would be out the money. The bikes were: a 2020 Giant at valued at $3,105.67, another 2020 Giant that cost $3,139.67, and the third was a Cannondale valued at $1,970.92. The bikes were purchased online, and the store has the name of people who allegedly purchased the bicycles, but those individuals did not match the description of the people who picked the bikes up.
Aug. 21, 8:10 a.m.: A moped was stolen from the Residence Inn by Marriott. The owner was staying at the hotel, and locked it up at 8 p.m. on Aug. 20, and the next morning at about 7:30 a.m. he discovered the moped was gone and the lock was broken and was found on the ground. The vehicle was a scooter type moped, and is red and black. Police checked surveillance footage, which showed at 5:09 a.m. in morning a person clothed from head to toe and it showed no face or distinguishing characteristics. The person approached moped and then walked away from the hotel with the moped toward Arlington Street in the parking lot. The vehicle was entered into the state computer system as stolen. It is valued at $1,000.
Aug. 21, 5:02 p.m.: A bicycle was stolen from an apartment building on Arsenal Street. The bike was locked to a rack located outside on the building property. The man went out at 6 p.m. on the 20th and noticed the lock was cut and the bike was missing. It is a red Salsa Timberjack, valued at $1,000.
Aug. 22, 4:50 p.m.: A fire was reported near 100 Parker Street. The caller was working in his garage when he saw a trailer on fire. Watertown Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire with no injuries. The trailer was affiliated with Boston Premier Flooring, and was filled with rags and empty cans used in flooring. It appears the items in the trailer combusted. The trailer is valued at about $5,000.
Aug. 23, 1:54 p.m.: A washing machine was discovered damage by a maintenance person checking on the Orchard Park Laundromat. Also, a fire extinguisher was missing. Surveillance video showed a man tipping over the washing machine and prying open the top of the machine where the coins are kept. He was also seen ripping the air conditioner power cord out of the wall and then took the fire extinguisher and left. The fire extinguisher was found in a trash can. The man was identified as a 34-year-old Watertown man. Police spoke with the man who admitted to causing the damage. He said he was upset because the machine took his money and would not give it back, so he tried to get it back himself. The damage occurred on Aug. 22 at 10:20 p.m. The cost to replace the machine is $1,500. The man was summonsed to Waltham District Court on a charge of destruction of property over $1,200.
Aug. 23, 6:32 p.m.: A Spruce Street resident discovered the rear tire of his Ford F150 had been punctured and was flattened. The tire is valued at $300.
