The following announcement was provided by the Mosesian Center for the Arts:
The Board of Directors of the Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts (MCA) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Darren Farrington as Executive Director effective August 17, 2020.
Darren is a highly experienced and passionate arts administrator, educator, theatre maker, and arts advocate. During these challenging times, Darren’s grounded, creative, and thoughtful leadership brings an unwavering confidence that MCA will continue to deliver on its mission to enrich the lives of diverse audiences and participants by providing exceptional experiences in theatre, visual, and literary arts.
For the past ten years, Darren has been the Executive Director of No Boundaries Youth Theater in New Britain, Conn., which he co-founded in 2010 for underserved children and teens. Darren has also worked for the past three years as Administrator for the Connecticut Arts Alliance, a statewide nonprofit advocacy organization for arts and culture. In that position, he has served as State Arts Advocacy Captain, working with Americans for the Arts and the State Arts Action Network.
Darren holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University School of the Arts and a JD from Fordham University with a focus on Media and Entertainment Law. He also attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. As a theatre producer, Darren’s training and work experience include nonprofit and commercial venues on Broadway, Off Broadway, regional, community, and youth theatres. In addition to producing large-scale theatrical and musical events, he has directed, stage managed, and designed theatrical productions.
In anticipating his new position, Darren says, “I’m very excited to join an organization that’s so important to this community in so many ways. The range and quality of MCA’s programs and its capabilities are truly exceptional, and the organization-wide commitment to advancing the arts and arts education is deeply inspiring. I look forward to building on the strong legacy of success and service, to continuing to elevate the positive impact we deliver to everyone in our community, and to meeting and working with artists and audiences in the Boston area.”
Darren will take over the responsibilities of Executive Director from the retiring ED, Roberta Miller who, along with her team, built a strong foundation for MCA during her five-year tenure.
“We are grateful that Darren will be able to learn from Roberta and many long-standing members of the Board of Directors and staff. We can’t wait to see how he will build on the strong momentum of the past and guide us into a future of even more powerful impact for those in our beloved community and the Greater Boston area,” says Vinnie Piccirilli, President of the MCA Board of Directors.
