A Newton man wanted for stealing a car, after breaking into a Watertown home, was caught the next day by Boston Police.
Watertown police arrested 36-year-old Jonathan L. Bradley Jr., of Newton, on multiple charges, including breaking into a home and stealing a 2012 Subaru Impreza.
On April 13, an Elton Avenue resident heard sounds on the upper floor of a two-family home between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. and later realized it was someone breaking into the home, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor.
“Thinking it was someone up early, the resident didn’t think anything of it,” O’Connor said. “When person got up they saw that a pocket book had been gone through, and their vehicle was missing from in front of the house.”
The resident went outside and discovered a ladder placed so someone could get up to the rear second floor balcony.
“The ladder was taken from a next door neighbor’s home, which was under construction,” O’Connor said. “The investigation revealed that the suspect used the ladder to access the apartment through the unlocked upper balcony door. He went into the home and he stole items out of the pocketbook — credit cards, as well as, the car keys.”
Watertown Police detectives went through the home and through the investigation they were able to identify Bradley as the suspect. They put out a be-on-the-lookout bulletin to surrounding police departments, which included a photo of the suspect.
The following day, a pair of Boston Police officers spotted a man matching Bradley’s description on Huntington Avenue in Boston. They stopped him and Watertown detectives responded to the scene.
“It was fantastic work by two Boston Police officers, who alerted us,” O’Connor said. “Later that night, our officers recovered the vehicle in South Boston. It was a really good example of teamwork.”
Bradley was arrested on the charges of felony breaking and entering a dwelling and larceny of a motor vehicle. He was also charged with six counts of identity fraud for using the stolen credit cards at six locations in the Huntington Avenue area, O’Connor said.
He was later released to home confinement due to covid…rinse and repeat.
Do you know this, or are you being sarcastic?
