One Watertown Institution Reopening After COVID-19 Break, Another Scaling Back; Latest Case Numbers

Donohue's Bar & Grill opened 20 years ago, and has grown and changed over that time.

Donohue’s Bar & Grill reopened after two weeks off due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

A mainstay in the Watertown restaurant scene will be reopening after a couple weeks off during the Coronavirus outbreak, while a popular local market will be closing for in-store shopping.

Over the weekend, J.D. Donohue announced that Donohue’s Bar & Grill will begin serving meals and alcohol for take out and deliver starting on Monday, April 6.

“We closed after St. Patrick’s Day to give staff and kitchen staff and myself time to be quarantined,” Donohue said. “We did the 14 day quarantine and we weren’t exposed to anything.”

The East Watertown restaurant will be open Monday to Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are keeping everyone on staff. My staff has been really great, very helpful,” Donohue said.

The staff will be wearing protective gear as the do deliveries and take out. The restaurant will also offer curbside pick up.

“We want to keep our customer base and tell everyone, thank you. Our main goal is to get to the the other end,” Donohue said. “The Watertown community has been great to me. I have been fortunate to be here 22 years, and I want to keep that going.” 

Other restaurants appear to be planning to open up again. A member of the staff at Not Your Average Joe’s said the restaurant is aiming to reopen in mid-April, and would be the first location in the chain to do so.

Changing Market

Meanwhile, Russo’s announced that the market will not be open for in-store shopping beginning Sunday.

“It has been a challenging three weeks for us and we will be closing our retail store for three weeks to reset beginning Sunday, April 12,” Russo’s announced on its website.

It appears the store will reopen in late April.

“We will see you Wednesday, April 29!” the message concludes.

Customers will still be able to get produce by purchasing the Russo’s boxes, which are pre-packed and delivered to people’s cars in the parking lot. Orders are taken online at https://russos.com/. Russo’s is also offering Easter Boxes.

Russo’s garden store will remain open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily. And the store’s wholesale operation will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Latest COVID-19 Update

Monday afternoon, the Mass. Department of Public Health announced that 1,337 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in the state, and 29 more people died from the virus. The total number of confirmed cases in the Bay State is 13,877, and 260 deaths. Overall, 1,241 people have been hospitalized.

In Watertown, the number of positive cases went up to 61, and eight people have recovered, according to the Watertown Health Department’s COVID-19 page.
